KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities investigating an officer-involved shooting in Kansas City have identified the man who died as 40-year-old Tyrone L. Payne of Kansas City.
Just before 11:30p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 1800 block of West Pennway Street where a suspect later identified as Payne had fired a guns inside a residence, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
While officers were at the scene, the suspect fired near the officers prompting police to return fire.
A KCPD SWAT unit and a negotiations team responded to encourage Payne to surrender. He fired a weapon again at the officers, who returned fire and struck him outside the house, according to the MSHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
