Sheriff: Boy injured after crash with Kan. middle school team bus

SUMNER COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident just before 4:30p.m. Thursday involving a school bus transporting the Winfield middle school football team and an SUV that collided on U.S.160 at Oliver.

A 2007 Chevy Tahoe was southbound on Oliver and failed to stop at the intersection, according to the Sumner County Sheriff's office. The SUV and the westbound school bus collided.

A 9-year-old boy in the Tahoe was ejected from the SUV. EMS transported him to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

No children or staff on the school bus were hurt, according to USD 465.  Students and staff were transferred to another Winfield bus and transported back to Winfield Middle School. Coaches, staff and administration were on site and coordinated with the sheriff and other authorities.

The team was traveling to Wellington for a game that was postponed and will be rescheduled.

SUMNER COUNTY —The Wellington middle school football game against Winfield was postponed Thursday after the Winfield bus was involved in a car accident on the way Wellington, according to USD 465.

The crash occurred at the corner of Highway 160 and Oliver.

At this point, it appears that everyone is okay, but the bus was damaged and unable to travel. The game will be rescheduled for a later date.

 There were no student or staff injuries. Students and staff were transferred to another Winfield bus and transported back to Winfield Middle School. Coaches, staff and administration were on site and coordinated with the Sheriff and other authorities.
