
SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating after a dog was shot and died in Topeka.
Just after 5:30a.m. Wednesday, police responded to report of gunshots in the 1300 block of Northeast Quincy Avenue, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.
Investigators determined that a man was in his yard taking his dogs out, when another dog described as a male black lab approached him in an aggressive manor and he shot the dog.
The man stated that he felt threatened for his safety and the safety of his dogs.
The dog, who also lived in the 1300 Block of Northeast Quincy, died as a result of the shooting.
Police didn't know of any previous problems with the dog.
The victim declined to press charges against the owner of the dog. Police had not issued any citations early Wednesday.
No other injuries were reported.
