SMITH COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 8a.m. Friday in Smith County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Chevy Silverado driven by Ardath Nix, 64, Phillipsburg, was southbound on Kansas 8 five miles north of Athol.
The pickup left the roadway, entered the west ditch and struck a large tree.
Nix was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Olliff-Boevie Memorial Chapel. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the. KHP.
