TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly held a press conference Monday afternoon to give an update regarding extreme winter weather in Kansas.
Kansas is under a state of emergency declaration as frigid temperatures and life-threatening wind chills grip the state. Kelly issued the order Sunday. The extreme cold endangers people and puts stress on utility and natural gas providers, who have asked residents to conserve energy. The disaster declaration authorizes the use of state resources and personnel to help respond in affected counties.
In addition to the governor, Maj. Gen. David Weishaar, Adjutant General and Director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and Andrew French, Chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) attended the news conference and answered questions.
