Sheriff: Speed contributed to double-fatal Kan. motorcycle crash

RENO COUNTY—Two people died in an accident just after 9:30p.m. Monday in Reno County.

Two individuals were northbound on Kansas 61 on a 2007 Harley Davidson Street Glide, according to a preliminary investigation by the Reno County Sheriff's office.

The motorcycle left the roadway at Herren Road where the K61 exit ends. The motorcycle struck a highway sign and both occupants were ejected.

When the first Deputy arrived on scene he located a female victim and began life saving measures. The second Deputy on scene located a male victim. Both victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by Reno County EMS.

The driver and passenger were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation.  Speed is believed to be a contributing factor, according to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff's office has not released the names of the victims.
