Kan. man fires gun at car with 2 children after dispute

TOPEKA —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a domestic disturbance and have arrested a suspect identified as Jahiem Brown.

Just after 2p.m. Saturday, police responded to report of a domestic disturbance in a 4-door passenger car in 1900 Block of SE California in Topeka, according to Lt. Edward Stanley.

Upon arrival officers learned that a man later identified as 19-year-old Jahiem Brown,  a woman and two children who were traveling in the car. At one point, Brown and woman were involved in verbal altercation, according to Lt. Stanley.

Brown exited the vehicle and fired a gun at it before fleeing on foot. Police later observed Brown running in the area of 20th and SE Iowa Avenue.

With the assistance of Shawnee County sheriff's deputies and the Kansas Highway Patrol, officers established a perimeter and were able to take the Brown into custody, according to Stanley. He is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Endangering A Child; Reckless Situation, Aggravated assault; Use of a deadly weapon, Criminal discharge of firearm; Recklessly at occupied vehicle, Interference with LEO, felony, Display/possess fictitious/revoked/suspended driver's license and numerous driving violations, according to the Shawnee County booking report.

Police released no additional details.
