HODGEMAN COUNTY—Crews fighting a large grass fire in Hodgeman County Thursday finally contained the blaze at approximately 7:25p.m., according to Sheriff Jared Walker.
Fire crews from all over southwest Kansas arrived to assist with the fire on Lake Road east of the city of Jetmore.
"There was still some trees burning but in the burned area late Thursday, according to Walker. Fire personnel remained on scene mopping up some spots. The sheriff thanedk everyone that came and assisted including Hanston Fire; Ford County; Ness County; Gray County; Finney County; Pawnee County and the SW Kansas Regional Task Force which had trucks from Kiowa, Minneola, and Ashland. Also all the companies and farmers that brought trailers of water and Hodgeman County Road and Bridge and KDOT employees.
Officials have not released details on the acres burned or what caused the fire. There were no injuries reported.
