TOPEKA ā Kansas Governor Laura Kelly held a press conference Monday afternoon to give an update on the increase in coronavirus in Kansas. During the briefing, she announced she was signing Executive order 20-61 to once again place a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures.
The order will last for two weeks, according to Kelly, "in hopes that the U.S. Senate gets its act together."
If the Senate doesn't act, Kelly said she would sign another extension. "No Kansan should be kicked out of the home during this pandemic. That's just wrong." said Kelly. "We are also looking at a number of options to support landlords."
Kansas has reported its biggest seven-day increase in novel coronavirus cases since the pandemic began and the total number exceeds 35,000.
