Murder arrest: Kan. man in crowd died from gunshot wounds

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal Saturday shooting identified the victim as 31-year-old Adrian Williams of Olathe and have a suspect in custody.

At 12:07 a.m., Saturday, police dispatch received multiple calls of gun shots with a subject down in the 2000 block of SE Pennsylvania in Topeka, Police Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

Officers arrived on scene to a large crowd of people and located  Williams with apparent gunshot wounds on the ground. American Medical Response arrived to assist but he did not survive his injuries.

On Saturday evening, police reported they  took Christopher Mendez, 21 of Topeka into custody. He was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of First Degree Murder, according to Johnson.
