SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are working to positively identify the body of a man found in Saline County last week. It is believed to be 20-year-old Jessi J. Herbst from Lacrosse, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.
On Nov. 22, the Saline County Sheriff's Office reported to the 6000 block of State Street, where a passerby noticed a black Dodge pickup crashed in the trees near the road, according to Soldan.
The truck was traveling westbound on State Street when it left the roadway and crashed into the trees. "Turns out the vehicle had been in the trees for some time," Soldan said. "There was a body found out there."
Deputies found human remains near the wreck, and until now, dense foliage hid the scene from view. The truck belonged to Herbst who was last seen this summer.
"He was reported back in July as a missing person — possibly endangered, he was possibly suicidal," Soldan said. The individual was likely Herbst, but an autopsy report will confirm the identity.
