SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after an arrest.
Just before 4:30p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to 9th and Broadway in Wichita after report of a suspicious character with a weapon, according to a media release.
Officers arrived on the scene and contacted 37-year-old Dexter Kilbride, who was holding a hatchet. The officers gave him multiple commands to drop the hatchet, but he refused to put the weapon down.
After giving him multiple commands to put the weapon down, the officers utilized a taser to disarm the suspect. From what could have been a potentially lethal situation, the officers did a fantastic job in utilizing less lethal options to disarm the suspect
Kilbride was arrested and remains jailed on requested charges of Aggravated Assault LEO, Simple Battery on EMS Personnel, Obstruct, and four outstanding bench warrants.
