Residents displaced after Kansas apartment building fire

JOHNSON COUNTY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of an apartment building fire in Johnson County.

Just after 4a.m. Tuesday, crews from Overland Park and Leawood responded to a fire at the Whispering Hills apartments in the 9100 Block of west 124th Street in Overland Park, according to a media release.

First responders observed smoke and fire coming from a second story balcony of the two-story apartment building. Overland Park police assisted with evacuating residents from the building.

The fire spread to the attic and interior of one unit. It took 45 minutes for fire crews to bring the fire under control. Fire damage was contained to two apartments. Another three apartments had some and water damage. The attic of the building also sustained moderate fire damage.

There were no injuries reported. Residents of the five apartments were displaced. Check the Post for additional details as they become available.
