HODGEMANN COUNTY—Five people died in an accident just after 1p.m. Thursday in Hodgeman County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Dodge Dakota driven by Rony Baxter Martinez-Meneses, 48, Garden City, was eastbound on Kansas 156 two miles west of Hanston. The Dakota tires traveled off the road. The driver overcorrected and spun into a westbound 2023 Ford Ranger driven by Adam William Edwards, 45, Garden City. in the westbound lane.
Edwards and passengers in the Dakota including 29-year-old Brianna Mae Katherine Kauffman, a 7-year-old boy, a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl all of Garden City were pronounced dead at the scene and were transported to Beckwith Mortuary.
EMS transported Martinez-Meneses to Wesley Medical Center. The adults were not wearing seat belts and the three children were not in safety seats, according to the KHP.
