RICE COUNTY, Kan. — A driver was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle rolled during a pursuit with a Rice County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy saw a vehicle run a stop sign near K-14 Highway and Avenue L at approximately 1:58 p.m. Tuesday and attempted to make a traffic stop.
Authorities said the driver did not stop and instead fled from the deputy. During the pursuit, the driver allegedly ran several additional stop signs and exceeded the posted speed limit.
After a short distance, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll. The driver was ejected during the crash.
Emergency crews transported the driver to an area hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office said the driver was reported to be in stable condition.
The sheriff’s office did not release the driver's name or provide additional information about possible citations or charges.
The release said the incident illustrates how quickly fleeing from law enforcement can turn a routine traffic stop into a serious emergency.
