ELLSWORTH COUNTY—A Kansas man died in a small plane crash just after 1:30p.m. Sunday in Ellsworth County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1946 Piper Fixed Wing aircraft piloted by Thompson, Ronnie D. Thompson, 77, Goddard, was flying from Lucas back to Wichita.
Witness told the patrol the plane went down for no apparent reason near 4th Road and Avenue D, two miles east of Kansas 232. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Parsons Funeral Home. The FAA and NTSB will investigate the incident.
