JEFFERSON COUNTY—Kansas game wardens are being recognized for their effort to make a water rescue on the final weekend of July.
Just before 4 p.m. July 30, the Jefferson County Sheriff's office reported 4 overturned canoes in the Kansas River that needed help, according to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
Wardens Entwhistle, Arnold, Porterfield and Cook responded to the area with one of the KDWP Rescue Airboats. The four individuals in canoes had traveled over a low water dam when their canoes capsized.
The all had on life jackets and were able to make it to the bank. The wardens located them and they were safe with only some minor scrapes and cuts.
The wardens were able to transport the four individuals as well as their canoes back to safety.
