Crews busy with house fires in Kansas on the 4th and early Tuesday

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of a Fourth of July fire in Topeka and another early Tuesday on Military Trail Road near St. George.

Just before 9a.m. Monday, crews responded to the report of a structure fire located at 715 SE Woodland Avenue, according to Fire Marshal Alan Stahl.

Upon arrival, crews found a 2 story home fully involved with fire. Fire crews began an offensive fire attack. A search of the structures revealed no one in the house at the time of the fire. Estimated dollar loss – $9470; all of which is associated with structural loss. No working smoke detectors were located within the home. There were no injuries, according to Stahl.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, crews from Pottawatomie County and Wamego worked to control a fire in a detached garage that had spread to the residence.  The garage was destroyed. There were no injuries.  Authorities released no additional details early Tuesday.
