Police: 17-year-old fired gun during Kan. burglary

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an aggravated assault and burglary and have suspect in custody.

Just after 11p.m. Monday, police responded to report of a disturbance with a weapon in the 2500 Block of East 25th Street North in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

A 34-year-old woman told police two unknown suspects were rummaging through her vehicle. She confronted them and one suspect pulled out a handgun and threatened her, according to Davidson.

During the investigation, police also contacted a 23-year-old man and woman in the 2700 Block of North Green in Wichita. They told police the same suspects were rummaging through their vehicles and stole property. When they confronted the suspects, the suspects ran and one fired a shot in the air, according to Davidson. There were no injuries.

Assisting officers spotted the suspects in the area and after a brief foot chase, took them into custody.

The 17-year-old boy is being held on requested charges of aggravated assault and burglary and a 16-year-old boy on requested charges of burglary, according to Davidson.
