KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces charges for the fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Kansas City apartment complex, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Mikell R. Grigsby, 23, faces Voluntary Manslaugther and Armed Criminal Action charges.
According to court records, on May 20, Kansas City police responded to an outside disturbance with persons fighting in the area of the 8600 block of Drury Avenue.
A calling party reported gunfire and hearing a man say, "I'm going to shoot." Witnesses confirmed two women were fighting. Knives were involved. And the victim was armed with a firearm, as well as Grigsby. Video surveillance showed that when the victim panned his weapon toward one of the woman and appeared to lower the weapon, Grigsby fired and hit the victim.
