CRAWFORD COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 5p.m. Saturday in Crawford County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1995 Ford F150 driven by Craig Silvey, 37, Cherokee, was westbound on Kansas 126 approximately two and one half miles west of U.S. 69.
The pickup was passing multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed and collided head-on with an eastbound 2023 Chevy Malibu driven by Layla Sharbutt, 16, Girard. After impact the pickup traveled off the roadway to the north and rolled.
Silvey was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Sharbutt and a passenger in the Chevy identified as Heather Burgess, 48, Girard, to Pittsburg Mercy. Silvy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the KHP.
