Police: Kan. woman hit by van that fled the scene

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a hit and run accident that sent a woman to a hospital with critical injuries.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a hit and run involving a pedestrian at 21st and Wellington in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers located a 54-year-old woman in the roadway in critical condition.  EMS transported her to an area hospital for medical treatment and and she remains hospitalized, according to Davidson.

The investigation revealed a white 1993 Chevy Van was traveling east on 21st Street North and struck the woman who was crossing 21st on Wellington from the north to the south.  The driver then fled the scene.

Officers later located the van unoccupied at 13th and Waco in the parking lot of business.
