Kansas man jailed for shooting that sent 2 victims to the hospital

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a suspesct in connection with a shooting that injured two Wednesday night in North Wichita.

Just after 10:30p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1100 block of North Broadway, according to a media release. Upon arrival, officers located a 49-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper and lower extremities.

A description of the suspect and vehicle involved was given and officers located the vehicle near 13th Street North and West Street. The driver, identified in county booking records as 62-year-old Carl Weems, was detained without incident, and a firearm was recovered.

During the investigation, officers also located a second victim, a 36-year-old male, in the area suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

Both victims were transported by EMS to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Weems was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges that include two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied building, and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
