UPDATE: Police locate Kan. child abduction suspect

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a child abduction and have made an arrest.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a 2-month old child being abducted when the vehicle he was in was stolen near 6th and Clay, according to Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

The vehicle was found a short time later with child located inside and unharmed. A suspect was identified as Don Womack Jr., 47 of Topeka, and was located and taken into custody in the area of 3rd and Buchanan around 2:45 p.m.

Womack was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping, Aggravated Child Endangerment and Aggravated Vehicle Burglary

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a child abduction and asking the public for help to locate a suspect.

Just after 11a.m. Monday, a 2-month-old child was abducted in a stolen vehicle near SW 6th Avenue and SW Clay Street in Topeka, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

The child has been located and is safe. Police also located the stolen vehicle, according to Spiker.

The suspect is described as a black male and was wearing a white shirt, blue pants and white shoes at the time of the abduction. 

Police released no additional details early Monday afternoon.
