
SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a hit and run accident and have made an arrest.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, two police detectives observed a red GMC Sonoma strike a 59- year-old woman who was walking in a crosswalk at East Douglas Avenue and North Main Street in Wichita, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.
The GMC, which was driven a suspect later identified as 27-year-old Dalton Drew was traveling west on Douglas and turned South on Main Street after striking the woman.
The 59-year-old received minor injuries from the accident.
Officers located the truck exiting from West Kellogg onto North Meridian Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the truck, but Drew refused and led officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit ended after Drew lost control of the truck and struck a tree. He then ran from the truck, but was located and arrested without further incident in a backyard at a nearby residence. He is being held on requested charges of felony evade and elude, hit and run, criminal possession of a firearm, and outstanding warrants in Nevada, according to Wheeler. Drew also has six previous convictions for theft, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.This case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office
