SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a wanted Kansas felon after a violent attack ona woman.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to an assault call at a business in the 3000 block of East Douglas in Wichita, according to Office Charley Davidson.

At the scene, a 55-year-old woman reported going to her car after leaving the business when she was approached by 64-year-old Veryl Crawford of Wichita. He pushed her and struck her multiple times with a rock causing serious injuries.  Crawford then took the woman's cell phone and wallet and fled on foot.

With the help of an eyewitness, officers located Crawford in the 3200 block of East Chatfield as he was attempting to hide evidence.   Police arrested Crawford without incident and booked into jail on requested charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, interference with law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a warrant through the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC), according to Davidson.

Crawford has multiple previous felony convictions and is currently on parolee through KDOC.
