TOPEKA —Law enforcement are investigating a violent domestic altercation and have a suspect in custody.

Just after 2a.m. March 30, police responded to a home SW 9th Street and SW Tyler Street in Topeka on a report of a possible domestic disturbance involving an armed suspect, according to Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

Upon arrival, officers located a woman with several serious injuries. The suspect had left the scene prior to officers arrival.

On Wednesday, police located the suspect, later identified as Winston T. Roberts, 25, of Auburn in the 3800 block of SW Topeka Blvd, according to Johnson.

Roberts remains in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges that include Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness/Victim, Criminal Discharge of a firearm, Criminal Damage to Property, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

The victim and suspect are known to one another, according to Johnson.
