SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 1:30 Friday in Shawnee County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2003 GMC Envoy driven by Janice Staerkel, 72, Hoyt, was northbound on U.S. 75 from U.S. 24 Westbound in the right lane. Vehicle two, non contact, was in the left lane. Vehicle two attempted to change lanes to the right.
The driver swerved to avoid a 2016 GMC Sierra driven by Kristin Haskell, 29, Lawrence, in the left lane attempting to change lanes to the right.
Staerkel lost control of the Envoy. The SUV left the roadway to the right and overturned multiple times. Staerkel was pronounced dead at the scene.
