
SEDGWICK COUNTY— A Kansas man jailed following a crash that killed his passenger, identified as 23-year-old Ashley Peralta of Wichita, made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
Cesar Arreola-Garcia, 20, was charged with second-degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Just before 1:30a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1700 block of East Douglas Avenue, according to a media release from Wichita Police.
When officers arrived, they found a crashed vehicle with the 20-year-old male driver identified in booking records a Arreola-Garcia and Peralta inside.
The Wichita Fire Department and EMS began life-saving measures on Peralta. EMS transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:46 a.m.
Arreola-Garcia had minor injuries and refused medical attention. That night, he was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for second-degree murder, DUI, possession of a stolen firearm, and a minor in consumption.
In February, law enforcement arrested Arreola-Garcia on a requesd charge of driving while suspended and liquor; purchase/possession/consume by a minor, according to Sedgwick County arrest records.
He remains jailed on $500,000 bond, according to online jail records.
