Two years of effort have resulted in passage of the Spouse Reciprocity bill by the Kansas House and Senate. Craig Bender, Military Affairs Director for the Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce, said it is now awaiting the Governor's signature.
Bender noted that there are multiple ramifications. "One is, when a Soldier's spouse gets here they can go straight into working as a nurse or a teacher."
On a secondary note when it comes to the stationing of troops, Bender added that or a Base Realignment and Closure round in the future this measure can have an impact. "This is one of the things that we are rated on so this is one of the things that will be so now we will be able to say that we have spouse reciprocity across the board," said Bender. He updated the Military Affairs Council in Junction City on the topic Thursday.
