HARVEY COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with an attempted aggravated kidnapping that occurred the evening of April 15, according to a media release from Sedgwick Police Chief Bryan Hall.
Just after 6:30p.m. that evening, police responded to reports that a woman had attempted to forcibly remove a child from a practice field located at 400 W. 4th Street. Witnesses said the woman stated her intent to take the child from the school property. Two supervising adults intervened and were able to separate the woman from the child.
The incident was reported to law enforcement on April 16. Following an investigation and consultation with the Harvey County Attorney’s Office, a 37-year-old Sedgwick resident was taken into custody on requested charges of attempted aggravated kidnapping, a felony.
She is currently being held at the Harvey County Detention Center and is awaiting an initial court appearance.
To protect the privacy of the child and the integrity of the investigation, police released no further details about the victim or suspect.
