Fire Marshal: Kan. woman critically injured in fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of fire that critically injured a  woman.

Just after 1:30a.m. Monday, crews responded to a fire at an apartment complex at 2925 SW Maupin Lane in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported no smoke or flames visible. Firefighters made entry to the building and found the fire had already been extinguished. 

They also located a 55-year-old woman in the apartment with injuries sustained from the fire, according to Harrison.

American Medical Response transported her to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The fire started in a single unit of the apartment building. The estimated dollar loss – $100.00; all of which is associated with contents loss, according to Harrison.  Authorities did not release the victim's name.
