Suspect shot at Kan. man trying to recover his stolen vehicle

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with a stolen vehicle.

Just before 8:30a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the area of NE Morse and Kansas Avenue in Topeka on reports of gunshots, according to Lt. Shane Hilton. After finding no vehicles there, officers were then sent to the 1900 block of N. Topeka on the report of a stolen vehicle. The two incidents were related and the vehicle’s owner reported being shot at by the suspect when he located his vehicle.

Officers checking the area for the stolen vehicle and located it abandoned in the 1200 block of NW Eugene in Topeka.

Officers continued checking the area and discovered a residence that appeared to have had entry forced in the 1200 block of NW Jackson. Police located a ma in the home identified as Troy M. Baker, 29, of Topeka. They Bake arrested him on requested charges of Attempted Aggravated Battery, Theft – Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Damage, according to Hilton.
