SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged assault after a weekend chase with police.

Just after 4p.m. Saturday, police responded to the area behind the Community Theater in the 300 Block of East Iron in Salina  for a report that Cody Espinosa, 37, of Salina, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was there, according to  Police Captain Paul Forrester.

An officer located Espinosa in the 100 block of South Fourth Street, and as the officer parked his patrol car, Espinosa ran along an alley between Fourth and Fifth streets.

The officer yelled for Espinosa to stop, but he continued and ran around a corner of a building.  As the officer turned the corner, Espinosa stopped, turned back to face the officer, pulled a cell phone out, and threw it in the direction of the officer, according to Forrester. The cell phone sailed over the officer’s head.

Espinosa was then arrested on the probation violation warrant and on requested charges of assault of a law enforcement office and interference with a law enforcement officer, according to Forrester.
