Police: Suspect in Kan. school parking lot fight turns herself in

OVERLAND PARK—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fight between students and parents at a Kansas middle school where one parent was run over and critically injured have a woman in custody.

Tyla Jack, 40, turned herself in at police headquarters Thursday afternoon, according to Kansas City Police. Police issued a statewide attempt to locate for her Thursday.

The incident on Tuesday afternoon started with a fight between two girls at Carl Bruce Middle School, 2100 N 18th St, Kansas City, Kansas.

School officials broke up the fight and called the girls’ parents, who showed up on the scene and made matters worse, police said.

As the mother of one of the girls walked away to leave, a family member of the other girl ran over the woman with her car and dragged her, police said. No students were hurt in the altercation.

The woman who was hit was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Police said the driver who hit her later identified as Tyla Jack fled the scene. She remains jailed on requested charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, flee and elude law enforcement, according to online jail records.
