KANSAS CITY —Authorities are investigating the cause of a New Year's Eve house fire in Kansas City.

Just after 4:30a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a reported house fire in the 3700 block of Wayne Street, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins. Crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a two-story house.

There appeared to be someone living in the home. However, there were no utilities, gas or electric. Fire crews never made contact with occupants of the home.

The water supply needed to fight this fire was delayed due to a car being parked in front of the closest hydrant.

There were no injuries reported at this fire. The KCFD would like to remind individuals that it is illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant, and you should leave a minimum of 15 feet of clearance. Officials did not release a damage estimate.
