DOUGLAS COUNTY– Detectives with the Lawrence Kansas Police Department made an arrest in the Sunday homicide of 23-year-old Victor Gabriel Moreno of Lawrence.
Daileon Maurice Thomas, 23, Olathe was safely taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility Monday evening on requested charges of murder in the first degree, according to police spokesperson Laura McCabe.
Just after 3a.m. Sunday, patrol officers arrived in the 700 block of New Hampshire Streen in Lawrence and gathered information to help detectives follow leads and put the pieces together. Investigators initially used public video, private video, license plate readers, and witness accounts to understand the sequence of events.
Detectives were then able to begin the detailed process of identifying the individuals involved and ultimately locate the suspect and arrest him without incident. Investigators were also able to recover the firearm they believe was involved in the killing.
Police have no reason to believe the suspect and the victim knew each other prior to the night of the tragic events, according to McCabe.
