TOPEKA —Senator Roger Marshall announced Tuesday he is going to support Attorney General Derek Schmidt's bid for Governor.
Marshall wrote on social media, "I was saddened to hear of the diagnosis of my friend Dr. Jeff Colyer. His health and family are top priority, and he will be in our family prayers as he’s begins his cancer treatment. He has an excellent prognosis and I know he will defeat this disease."
"With Colyer’s exit from the Republican Primary for Governor, there is a clear path and opportunity for Kansas Republicans to coalesce behind one solid candidate, avoiding a costly, contentious, and detrimental primary race.
Doing so will save Republicans precious resources to defeat the real opponent: Governor Laura Kelly whose administration has turned its back on the values of Kansas since day one. Attorney General Derek Schmidt will be the man for the job and he has our full and complete endorsement and support."
Schmidt followed the news with his own social media statement, "U.S. Senator Marshall has endorsed my campaign for governor. Roger fights every day in Washington D.C. to represent Kansas families, and together we’ll fight for our conservative values here at home. Thank you for the support, Doc."
