KANSAS CITY —Two men in Kansas City for the NFL Draft face burglary and other charges for stealing NFL jerseys for top draft picks from areas requiring special NFL Draft access credentials, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Jude Ocanas, 19, Los Angeles, California and Eric F. Lambkins, 41, of Marietta, Georgia each face Burglary 2nd Degree, Stealing, and a misdemeanor count of Trespass 1st Degree.
According to court records filed Saturday, NFL officials reported Friday that three NFL jerseys were stolen from the Nike Room of the NFL draft.
KCPD detectives reviewed video from security cameras that showed the defendants entering areas early in the morning on Friday, including the Talent Waiting Room, which is adjacent to the Nike Room.
NFL officials advised that the defendants had credentials for the NFL Draft but not for those areas and not at that time of the morning. Three jerseys, valued by the NFL at $350 each, were stolen. One was a blue Dallas Cowboy's jersey, a second was a red San Francisco 49ers jersey and the third was a Minnesota Vikings jersey. Each jersey had a No. 1 on the back and were available for first-round picks for those teams.
The defendants, according to court records, were arrested later Friday as they were attempting to leave for their home states. Two of the jerseys were found in their luggage.
