2 adults, 2 children and pets escape Kansas house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home.

Just after 10a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to a fire at a home at 2206 SW Duane Street in Topeka. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and heavy flames coming from the rear of the two-story home.

 Two adults, two children and two cats were able to escape the flames prior to the fire department’s arrival..

The Estimated dollar loss – $50,000.00; of which $45,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $5,000.00 is associated with contents loss. Working smoke detectors were not located in the home.

The Kansas Fire Marshal's office is assisting with the investigation.
