
BOURBON COUNTY —The Kansas Fire Marshal's office is working with local officials to determine the cause of a fire that caused significant damage to a historic church in southeast Kansas.
Just after 9p.m. Monday, crews responded to St Mary’s Catholic Church, 714 South Eddy Street, in Fort Scott for a report of a fire, according to a media release.

Crews found the church on fire with heavy smoke and flames emitting from the SE corner of the structure.
Fort Scott Fire Department, with assistance from Nevada Fire Department, Scott Township Fire Department, Bourbon County Rural District 3 Fire Department, and Arma Fire Department battled the blaze until the early morning hours Tuesday.
One Fort Scott Firefighter sustained a minor injury. He was treated and released from the Via Christi Emergency Room. No other injuries are known. Officials have not released a damage estimate.
