
JOHNSON COUNTY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of a large house fire in Johnson County.
Just before 6p.m. Tuesday, crews responded to a home near 119th and Cherokee lane in Leawood after a 911 caller reported smoke in the area, according to the Leawood Fire Department.
First arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of a large home. Fire moved into the attic and burned through the roof. Overland Park fire crews also responded to assist.
Two firefighters were injured. One was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The other was treated on the scene. There was nobody home at the time of the fire.
119th Street was closed at Cherokee for several hours while crews battled the blaze and investigated.
