Police: Kan. man injured when firework shot into his car window

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating an incident involving fireworks that injured a 29-year-old man.

Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to call involving someone who was burned at an apartment complex in the 500 block of West 33rd Street in Wichita, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

At the scene, officers contacted the 29-year-old man who was burned from a firework mortar that was shot at him.  EMS transported the man to a local hospital where he was treated and released with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that the 29-year-old was driving in the 3000 block of North Arkansas in Wichita with his windows down. 

He reported that a fireworks mortar was fired into the vehicle, landed on him, and exploded. 

He then observed two unknown individuals in their teens or early twenties running across North Arkansas to an unknown location.

The victim drove into a nearby convenience store to seek assistance.
