DOUGLAS COUNTY - A Kansas pleaded no contest Friday to two counts of aggravated endangering of a child, according to Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez.

The charges against 26-year-old Lukas Armstrong of Baldwin City stemmed from an incident that occurred on September 13, 2019, when officers from the Lawrence Kansas Police Department were called to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Overland Park in relation to a two-year-old patient. Findings from the child’s exam were reported as being indicative of violent child abuse. Armstrong, who had often provided child care to the child, was the boyfriend of the child’s mother at the time.

“The safety of our youngest community members must always be a top priority,” District Attorney Valdez said. “As we observe National Child Abuse Awareness Month, we as a community must raise awareness, help children heal and continue to hold perpetrators accountable.”

Armstrong faces between 5 months to a maximum of 17 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for each conviction, according to Valdez.
