Kan. man who turned himself in to police charged with murder

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — A 21-year-old Leavenworth man has been charged with first-degree murder in a shooting death in Leavenworth on May 4. County Attorney Todd Thompson said Monday that Cordell Marqueise Stewart was charged in the death of 31-year-old Floyd Ross Jr.

Police responded to a report of shots fired in Leavenworth. They found Ross lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Steward surrendered to detectives at the police station on Friday.

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating a fatal shooting in Leavenworth have a suspect in custody.

Just after 4p.m. Friday, a 21-year-old man wanted in the shooting death of 31-year-old Floyd Ross, Jr. surrendered to detectives at the police station, according Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens.

On May 4, police responded to reports of shots fired at a city intersection. They found Ross suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The suspect, whose name had not been released, faces a charge of first-degree murder.
