FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a violent weekend incident.

Just after 11:30 p.m., February 18, police were dispatched to the 500 block of W. Thompson Street in Garden City for a reported aggravated assault that just occurred, according to Garden City Police.

Investigators learned that 35-year-old Jarred Myran went to a residence to confront an individual over a conflict, but the individual was not there. When the individual arrived home, Myran rammed his vehicle into the individual’s vehicle while they were in it and made several threats before fleeing the scene.

On Monday, police located Myran and took him into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers located suspected counterfeit oxycodone pills mixed with fentanyl and methamphetamine on Myran.

Myran is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Criminal Threat, Criminal Damage, Possession of Stimulant, and Possession of Opiate.

Trump, who is the likely GOP candidate to face off against Biden this fall, repeatedly leaned on the 212(f) power while in office,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/3a20abe305bd4c989116f82bf535393b">including his controversial ban to bar travelers from Muslim-majority nations.</a>&nbsp;Biden rescinded that ban on his first day in office through executive order.

White House considering new border crackdown

BROWN COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating. wanted suspect on additional charges after tracking him down.

Just after 12a.m. February 18, sheriff's deputies were alerted that an individual having a Richardson County Nebraska Felony Warrant for 1st Degree Assault was in Hiawatha, Kansas, according to Sheriff John Merchant.

Deputies located the wanted suspect identified as 47-year-old Anthony Tull of Hiawatha in a vacant building.&nbsp; 

He was hiding on top of a small room in the building and was taken into custody without incident.&nbsp; Tull is also facing requested charges of Felony Obstruction.

In July, deputies arrested Tull on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Obstruction and a Hiawatha Failure to Appear Warrant, according to Merchant.

Kansas assault suspect was hiding on top of small room

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — One of the men charged in a Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory celebration shooting that left&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-62e69a17b469b854afd7bcc3f548d1fc">one person dead</a>&nbsp;and around two dozen others injured had recently come off probation for pulling out a gun during a dispute over a basketball game.

Lyndell Mays, 23, of Raytown, whose two years of probation ended earlier this month, made a first appearance Wednesday in the Feb. 14 shooting outside Kansas City’s historic Union Station. He was dressed from head to toe in orange, his face bandaged, his hands cuffed and ankles shackled.

Prosecutors announced Tuesday that Mays and another man, Dominic Miller, were charged with second-degree murder and other counts in the shooting&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-62e69a17b469b854afd7bcc3f548d1fc">that brought a horrific end</a>&nbsp;to what had been a gleeful celebration before a crowd that totaled an estimated 1 million people.

In court, Mays told the judge he had spoken to an attorney, although none was in court with him. Asked if he understood the charges, Miller said yes. The minutes-long appearance ended with the judge setting a Feb. 29 hearing to discuss his $1 million bond.

Mays looked out at the journalists in the crowd as he walked out. There were no victims in the courtroom.

Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said during a news conference Tuesday that her office had no previous interactions with Mays or Miller.

But a statement from Belton police said Mays displayed a handgun during a basketball game dispute at a community center, causing people to run for safety out of the gym. According to court documents in the municipal case, Mays was charged with disorderly conduct in April 2021. He entered a guilty plea on Feb. 8, 2022, and was placed on probation for two years.

Miller and Mays, who didn't know each other, were among several people arguing last Wednesday when Mays “pulled his handgun," leading others to do the same, court records show. Online court records do not list attorneys who can comment for the men.

Authorities also detained two juveniles, charging them with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-278e2d3e2cfece1cbe958511e54127ad">gun-related and resisting arrest</a>&nbsp;charges.

Officials have said more charges are possible.

The shooting happened despite the presence of more than 800 police officers.

Those injured range in age from 8 to 47 years, according to Police Chief Stacey Graves.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-parade-shooting-dj-victim-d96b8631a92af6682b77577c2c4e98c8">Lisa Lopez-Galvan</a>, a mother of two and the host of a radio show called “Taste of Tejano,” was killed.

Marques Harris, who was wounded in the shooting, told&nbsp;<a href="https://fox4kc.com/news/friend-says-chiefs-parade-shooting-suspect-was-only-protecting-him/">WDAF-TV</a>&nbsp;that Miller should not have been charged and that his friend was only trying to protect him.

He said it started with Mays staring down his 15-year-old friend. The teen asked if there was a problem and Mays then started to talk trash, recalled Harris who decided to intervene.

“I pushed my little brother out the way,” Harris said. “As soon as I pushed my little brother out of the way, the dude stepped forward and proceeded to shoot me."

Only then did Miller fire, said Harris, whose mouth is nearly wired shut. He said the bullet struck him in his neck and traveled out of his mouth.

Court documents say ballistics show that the bullet that killed Lopez-Galvan was fired from Miller's firearm. Miller was hospitalized after the shooting and his mugshot was not immediately available.

Lopez-Galvan was wearing a jersey of Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at the celebration. On Tuesday, the kicker responded to requests on social media seeking help in obtaining a similar jersey for Lopez-Galvan's family, possibly so she could be laid to rest with the shirt.

In a statement, Butker said he and his wife were heartbroken by Lopez-Galvan's killing and called for those responsible to “be brought to justice.”

“Hearing that she was a fan of my outspokenness for our shared Catholic Faith makes this even more personal. I am honored to provide a jersey to the family for her to wear,” Butker said. "While the family is mourning their loss and grappling with their numerous injuries, I will continue to pray for their healing and the repose of Lisa’s soul.”

The shooting occurred in a state with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-938583b1e9aa3b3a45f8a012e7b80fee">few gun regulations</a>&nbsp;and historic tension over how cities handle crime.

Advocates for tighter gun restrictions organized a rally in Kansas City on Saturday, near where the shooting took place. Video posted on social media shows dozens of people holding signs and chanting, “Enough is enough!”

It is unlikely that the state government would ever introduce laws to limit gun ownership, but the Missouri House on Monday approved&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-parade-kansas-city-missouri-celebratory-gunfire-0a1af65ab3e5130ffba0c2713ac1d105">a ban on celebratory gunfire</a>&nbsp;in cities. The measure now goes to the Senate.

Kansas City Chiefs rally shooting suspect appears in court

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities continue investigating the homicide of a 1-year-old identified as Taidyn Anderson of Wichita, according to Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford.

Just after 7p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a shooting call at an apartment in the 2500 block of S. Oliver in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

First responders located three shooting victims, two 24-year-old women and Anderson all from Wichita. All three were transported to a local area hospital for their injuries.

The two women had critical but non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.&nbsp; The 1-year-old was pronounced deceased.&nbsp;

In addition to the three victims, the apartment was occupied by a 24-year-old man, a 5-year-old girl and a 10-month old&nbsp; girl, all of Wichita, during the time of the shooting.&nbsp; They were not injured by the gunfire.

The police investigation has revealed that the suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun into the apartment striking the victims. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation and detectives are diligently following up on promising leads for the arrest of the suspect.

At this time, based on the evidence known, police believe this was a targeted incident.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the violent and heinous crime that has occurred in our community, said Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan. "The killing of a 1-year-old child is an unspeakable tragedy that has left us all shaken. This senseless act of violence strikes at the core of our community's values. Our children should be cherished and protected, not subjected to such senseless acts."

Police ID toddler who died after shooting into Kansas apartment

&nbsp;SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities continue their investigation of a January murder in Wichita.&nbsp; According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office, police will present their case Wednesday against a second suspect identified as 27-year-old Robert Howland in the death of 35-year-old LaDonte Ostrander.&nbsp; 

On January 22, Yancy Hermosillo, 27, was charged with 2nd degree murder in the&nbsp; shooting, according to the District Attorney's office.

On Jan. 16, police responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots in the 1000 block of S. Market, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.&nbsp; 

In the 900 block of S. Market Street, first responders discovered Ostrander with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. Sedgwick County EMS transported him in critical condition to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

&nbsp;On January 18, police arrested Hermosillo, a<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=397415">ccording to online arrest</a>&nbsp;records.

Just after 2a.m. January 20, police arrested 27-year-old Robert Howland in the 1300 block of S. Santa Fe in Wichita in connection with the death of Ostrander.

Hermosillo <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=230072">remains jailed on bond</a>s totaling over 10 million dollars, according to online jail records.

Hermosillo has previous felony convictions for domestic battery, criminal threat,&nbsp; and aggravated interference with parental custody, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.&nbsp;

Police to present case against 2nd suspect in Kansas murder

JOHNSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged road-rage incident and have a suspect in custody.

Just after 8a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a road rage incident in the area of College Blvd. and Cody Street in Overland, according to Officer John Lacy.

The victim reported the original road rage incident took place at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Interstate 35 Highway.   The victim reported the road rage incident to dispatch and followed the suspect vehicle.  At College Blvd. and Nieman the male suspect driver fired several rounds at the victim’s vehicle, according to police.

 The suspect then sped off and then crashed at College Blvd. and Cody Street.

Police took the adult male suspect into custody.  There were no injuries.

Suspect arrested for Kansas road rage shooting 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Two men have been charged with murder in last week’s shooting that killed one person and injured 22 others after the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, Missouri prosecutors said Tuesday.

Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays are charged with second-degree murder and other counts. They have been hospitalized since the shooting, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said during a news conference. Officials declined to answer whether the men were being treated for gunshot wounds or other injuries.

Court records lay out a basic view of how the shooting unfolded.

The men did not know each other before the shooting, according to prosecutors. They were among several people arguing when Mays “pulled his handgun first almost immediately” and several others did the same, Peters Baker said. Police say it was Miller’s gun that fired the shot that killed a woman.

Online court records did not list attorneys who could comment on the men’s behalf. The Missouri State Public Defender’s Office said applications for public defenders for the men had not yet been received by the Kansas City office.

The new charges come after two juveniles were detained last week&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-278e2d3e2cfece1cbe958511e54127ad">on gun-related and resisting arrest charges</a>. Authorities said more charges were possible.

“I do want you to understand — we seek to hold every shooter accountable for their actions on that day. Every single one,” Peters Baker said. “So while we’re not there yet on every single individual, we’re going to get there.”

Police have said a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-62e69a17b469b854afd7bcc3f548d1fc">dispute among several people</a>&nbsp;led to the shooting, which happened even as 800 police officers patrolled the celebration.

The 22 people injured range in age from 8 to 47, according to police Chief Stacey Graves.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-parade-shooting-dj-victim-d96b8631a92af6682b77577c2c4e98c8">Lisa Lopez-Galvan</a>, a mother of two and the host of “Taste of Tejano,” was killed.

The shooting was the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-parade-shooting-2a500aff2edea212bf54cf6597b2f4f7">latest at a sports celebration</a>&nbsp;in the U.S. A shooting wounded several people&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/denver-shooting-nuggets-suspect-ee4869abf1afee855565f1c517bfae1f">last year in Denver</a>&nbsp;after the Nuggets’ NBA championship.

That led Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas to wonder whether it’s time to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/shooting-chiefs-parade-security-48bcd66e5998776a7167a2434dec7fd1">rethink championship celebrations</a>, even as he promised last week that the city will continue to celebrate its victories. Next month’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will go on as scheduled, Lucas said.

The Kansas City shooting occurred in a state with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super-bowl-parade-shooting-kansas-city-938583b1e9aa3b3a45f8a012e7b80fee">few gun regulations</a>&nbsp;and a city that has struggled with gun violence. In 2020, Kansas City was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/in-state-wire-tn-state-wire-mo-state-wire-politics-oh-state-wire-0950ff59635979d7d2d2d3479f4d9c58">among nine cities</a>&nbsp;chosen by the U.S. Justice Department in an effort to crack down on violent crime. In 2023, the city matched its record with 182 homicides, most of which involved guns.

On Monday, Missouri’s Republican-led House on a bipartisan vote passed a ban on celebratory gunfire in cities following&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-parade-kansas-city-missouri-celebratory-gunfire-0a1af65ab3e5130ffba0c2713ac1d105">debate that ranged from tearful to angry</a>. A similar measure was passed last year as part of a sweeping crime-related bill, but GOP Gov. Mike Parson vetoed the legislation. He cited issues with other crime provisions in the bill unrelated to celebratory gunfire.

2 adults charged in deadly shooting after Chiefs parade, rally

Police: 1-year-old dead, 2 women injured in Kansas shooting

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects for multiple allegations after their actions during a house fire.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, crews from the Topeka Fire Department&nbsp; responded to a house fire located 426 SE Leland Street, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols. 

First responders found a two-story home with heavy smoke coming from it and began suppression operations. An individual, later identified as Joel E. Rodriguez, 38, of Topeka, attempted to enter the burning residence and fire crews called the Topeka Police for assistance.

Two other individuals, later identified as 18-year-old Isiah M. Dunn and 21-year-old Hector Xilonzochilt both of Topeka, also attempted to interfere with firefighters.

No individuals were located in the house and no injuries occurred as a result of the fire.&nbsp;

Police arrested Rodriguez, Xilonzochilt and Dunn and booked them into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of&nbsp;Unlawful interference with firefighter; Obstruct efforts to reach location, according to online jail records.&nbsp; Rodriguez and Dunn were also wanted for warrants.

The total estimated loss from the fire was approximately $10,070. The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to Nichols.&nbsp;The cause of the fire  remains under investigation.

Kansas man arrested after he tried to enter burning home 

JOHNSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting have identified the suspect who died as&nbsp;43-year-old Brett Smiley, according to Shawnee Police.

Just after 11a.m. Sunday, police were notified of a rolling disturbance with shots fired from a truck along Kansas 7, according to Shawnee, Kansas Police.

Subsequently, Shawnee police responded to a robbery in progress call at a QuikTrip in the 20600 block of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Officers were informed of shots being fired inside the business. Officers engaged an armed subject later identified as Smiley at the door.&nbsp; EMS transported Smiley&nbsp; to the hospital in critical condition.&nbsp; Late Sunday police reported the he died of his injuries..

No citizens or officers were injured.&nbsp; The Johnson County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Investigation Team is now in charge of the investigation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Police continue to ask anyone who witnessed or has information about this incident is also asked to call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Officers were informed of shots being fired inside the business. Officers engaged an armed subject later identified as Smiley at the door.&nbsp; EMS transported Smiley&nbsp; to the hospital in critical condition.&nbsp; Late Sunday police reported the he died of his injuries..No citizens or officers were injured.&nbsp; The Johnson County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Investigation Team is now in charge of the investigation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Police continue to ask anyone who witnessed or has information about this incident is also asked to call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Police ID  armed robbery suspect who died in Kan. officer shooting

TOPEKA —A Florida man is under arrest after being charged with election fraud in Kansas, according to a statement from the Kansas Attorney General's office.

On February 6, George Andrews, 30 of Dade City, Florida, was arrested&nbsp; for forging signatures on petitions to make “No Labels” an officially recognized political party in Kansas.

“Andrews was part of a scheme to defraud Kansas voters by placing their forged signatures on petitions. In Kansas, we take election fraud seriously, and we will prosecute every case where the evidence indicates a crime has been committed beyond a reasonable doubt,” Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said.

The arrest comes following an extensive investigation by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. Andrews is charged with two counts of election perjury and 28 counts of election forgery. 

Andrews was arrested in Dade City, Florida. Pending extradition to Kansas, Andrews will appear in Johnson County District Court. In 2015, the legislature gave the Attorney General’s Office and the Secretary of State’s Office the authority to prosecute elections crimes in Kansas. When Kobach was Secretary of State, he successfully prosecuted 12 cases of election fraud, including double voting and non-citizen voting. Kobach is the first Kansas Attorney General to exercise the authority to prosecute election crimes.

Man jailed in Florida for alleged election fraud in Kansas

KANSAS CITY —On January 17, a mass shooting occurred at <a href="https://www.crowncenter.com/">Crown Center </a>in Kansas City that sent as many as 6 people to area hospitals.

A short time later,&nbsp;Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker responded to Lemon's statement.

We cannot detail further at this time the status of that investigation in order to protect officer safety and the investigation itself."

Just after 5:30p.m. Jan. 17, police responded to a report of gunfire in the lower level near the food court  at Crown Center in Kansas City, according to KCPD Sergeant Jake Becchina.

A preliminary investigation indicated 3-4 people were struck by gunfire after a disturbance between two groups turned into gunfire.&nbsp;

Police later learned three additional victims showed up on their own at other hospitals. That brings the total number of shooting victims to six. The ages of all but one victim range from late teens to early 20s the other one is in their 50s

Crime Scene Investigators and detectives responded to process the scene and speak to witnesses. Several people were detained for questioning at the scene, Becchina said, but police have not yet announced any arrests

Prosecutor responds to criticism of Crown Center shooting investigation

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating five suspect on drug allegations.

On February 15, 2024, members of the Topeka Police Department Narcotics Unit served a search warrant in the 5200 Block SW 27th Street in Topeka related to an ongoing investigation, according to Police Lt. Ronnie Connell.

While conducting the search warrant, officers located fentanyl, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

As a result police arrested Jana Steele, 40; Christen Hollis, 39; Tyrone Popejoy, 42; Thomas Tadlock, 40, and Halie Clinton, 29.

&nbsp;Steele is being held on requested charges of&nbsp;Distribution of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine within 1000’ of a school, No Drug Tax Stamp, Interference, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a&nbsp;County Arrest Warrant

Suspect accused of selling fentanyl, meth near a Kansas school

LANSING, Kansas. –Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) resident Kaydin Varland-Hazelton, 28, died Saturday, according to a media release from the Kansas Department of Corrections.

 He was pronounced deceased by local hospital staff. 

Varland-Hazelton, was serving an 84-month sentence for several convictions of drug possessions and one count of battery in Sedgwick County.&nbsp; According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, he had ten previous convictions dating back to crimes committed in 2018 including domestic battery, criminal threat, aggravated battery and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy. A preliminary assessment indicates the death was not related to COVID-19.

Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of the KDOC, the death is under investigation by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.&nbsp;

Deputies, Troopers make child sex crime arrest at Kansas motel

JERUSALEM (AP) — The families of two Palestinian-American teenagers killed in separate but eerily similar incidents in the West Bank say investigators from the American Embassy have visited their homes to look into the shootings.

Launching American probes into the killings of Mohammad Khdour and Tawfic Abdel Jabbar reflects what appears to be a lack of confidence in the Israeli justice system to properly investigate the cases. Rights groups have long said that Israeli investigations into killings of Palestinians rarely lead to prosecutions, and the State Department has previously called for an “expeditious" and "thorough” Israeli investigation into Abdel Jabbar's killing.

Both shootings happened as the Biden administration signals a desire to crack down on settler violence in the volatile territory.

Khdour, who was born in Hollywood, Florida, was shot last Saturday while driving with a cousin on a hillside in Biddu, the town just outside of Jerusalem where Khdour had lived since the age of 2, relatives said.

Seeking some fresh air after studying, Khdour joined the cousin on a drive to the forested hillside where villagers often barbecued, his brother Hamed Khdour said.

In videos and photos taken before the shooting and seen by The Associated Press, the boys joked around, taking photos of each other for social media and eating chocolate-covered waffles.

The boys were returning to the village, Hamed said, when they heard gunfire. At least one shot came through the car window, hitting Mohammad squarely in the head.

Hamed said his cousin told the family that the shots came from a white Mitsubishi with an Israeli license plate parked on a road below the hill, a vehicle that villagers said they had seen before. Hamed said the car was across the security fence separating Biddu from Israeli territory. The cousin then managed to escape and run back to the village.

A video taken directly after the incident and seen by The Associated Press showed a group of men pulling a body out of the car, littered with shattered glass and stained with blood. Hamed said Mohammad was pronounced dead at a Ramallah hospital late Saturday night.

Ahmad Khdour, Mohammad's father, said he did not know if Israel had begun investigating the case and had heard nothing from Israeli officials.

The Israeli military referred questions to the Shin Bet internal security service, which did not respond to requests for comment.

But U.S. Embassy officials visited the home and the scene of the shooting Thursday, taking pictures of the car Khdour was driving and the scene around it, Mohammad's father said. He said the officials told the family they are preparing a report on the incident.

The U.S. Office of Palestinian Affairs wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that it was “devastated” by the killing and called for “a quick, thorough, and transparent investigation, including full accountability.”

Khdour lived in Biddu with his mother and four brothers. He hoped to go back to the U.S. to study law once he finished his final year of high school, Hamed said.

“Mohammad was a simple kid, like any other kid. He had dreams. He loved cars,” said Hamed. “He never fought with anyone. Everyone liked him.”

The shooting came nearly a month after the killing of Tawfic Abdel Jabbar, also a 17-year-old Palestinian-American shot while driving down a dirt road close to his village in the northern West Bank.

The sole passenger in the vehicle&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/american-teen-shooting-death-west-bank-violence-1783ff3a7fa5f65f5b792372fd093445">said the shooting was unprovoked</a>, describing apparent Israeli fire hitting the back of the vehicle before it overturned several times. The incident prompted an expression of concern from the White House and an uncommonly quick pledge from the Israeli police to investigate.

But Israeli police have still not released any new findings in the case.

A video shared with the AP by Abdel Jabbar’s father raised new questions of the police’s original theory, which never mentioned that the teen had been shot while driving.

Instead, the police said that a civilian, an off-duty police officer and a soldier had targeted people “purportedly engaged in rock-throwing activities” along a main West Bank thoroughfare.

The video, which the father said was taken moments after the shooting, shows two Israeli soldiers standing about 20 meters (yards) from the vehicle, guns cocked — indicating that soldiers were in the vicinity that day.

Abdel Jabbar's father said that Israeli investigators took the vehicle into custody for under a week before returning it.

He said that last week U.S. Embassy investigators collected medical and legal reports issued by the Ramallah prosecutor's office and the hospital that treated Abdel Jabbar.

The reports indicated that the cause of Tawfic's death was a gunshot wound to the right side of the head.

Tawfic was from Gretna, Louisiana, and had been in the West Bank for under a year. Like Khdour, he was planning to return to the U.S. for college.

In an unrelated incident, Israel arrested a 46-year-old Palestinian-American woman, also from Gretna, last week for alleged incitement in posts on social media. The woman's family says they&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-west-bank-us-louisiana-ec8eb1c057217f40483e66e69fef7499">have not seen or heard from her</a>&nbsp;since.

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said a week ago that he was “confident” that Ambassador Jack Lew was looking into Samaher Esmail's case, as well as circumstances around the detention of two Palestinian-Americans in Gaza that Israel says are affiliated with Hamas.

“Obviously, this is the kind of thing we take very seriously, so we’ll be talking to our Israeli counterparts and trying to get information, more context here about what happened,” he said.

The deaths come as violence surges across the occupied territory. Since the shock attack by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 from Gaza into southern Israel, Israel has held the West Bank in a tight grip.

Biden’s administration has&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/biden-israel-hamas-middle-east-criticism-ea5685fc1ed577d3bf1b5a3aa4acf0db">provided military and diplomatic support</a>&nbsp;for Israel’s war against Hamas. Still, the administration has&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/west-bank-palestinians-israel-military-raid-3deed25c4c14a5e3048778cbc79523c5">condemned rising violence by Israeli settlers</a>&nbsp;against Palestinians in the West Bank, most recently&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/biden-west-bank-israeli-settlers-palestinians-80f9e6be6f6a7bb75dc86360ac2fa6ce">releasing sanctions targeting four settlers</a>.

Since Oct. 7, 395 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli fire, according to Palestinian health officials. Most have been killed in clashes during near nightly Israeli army raids aimed at suspected militants.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating another deadly shooting in Wichita and have made two arrests.

Just after 4p.m. Thursday, police responded to a shooting in the 1400 block of South George Washington Blvd. in&nbsp; Wichita, according to Police Lt. Aaron Moses.

 The victim, identified as 42-year-old Candace Amack of Wichita, was found outside of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was&nbsp; was pronounced deceased on the scene.

 </figure>Employing FLOCK, cutting-edge technology, Wichita Police Officers were able to identify a possible suspect vehicle leaving the area after the reported shooting.Officers quickly identified and located the vehicle at a residence in the 1300 block of North Jackson in Wichita. In collaboration with the Kansas Highway Patrol air section, the Wichita Police Department coordinated efforts resulting in the safe apprehension of the suspects at approximately 7:45 pm near 13th and Hydraulic on a vehicle stop. Two individuals identified from the daily booking report as 24-year-old&nbsp;Jose Velazquez-Carillo&nbsp; and 33-year-old Martin Velazquez-Villa were detained without incident and later arrested on requested charges of First-Degree Murder..
