SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man arrested after a 16-hour standoff in Lawrence is now charged in the death of&nbsp;51-year-old Jose Lumbreras of Wichita.

Kevin Harris, 63 of Lawrence, is charged with 1st&nbsp;degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

On Aug. 22, police in Wichita arrested&nbsp; 50-year-old Monicie Ramirez in connection with the crime. Police in Lawrence took&nbsp; Harris into following a prolonged standoff.

Just after 11 p.m. August 22, police learned Harris had fled Wichita and was believed to be inside an apartment in the 1400 block of Bristol Terrace in Lawrence, according to Police Sgt. Drew Fennelly 

 While working to gather more information from Wichita, officers in Lawrence set up a perimeter on the apartment building, and gathered information that led investigators to believe the suspect was present.

The Lawrence Police Crisis Response Team was activated and responded to the area, as well our Crisis Response Negotiators and&nbsp; the Unoccupied Aerial Vehicle team.

Crisis Negotiators were able to establish contact with people in the apartment and verified Harris was there. The Lawrence Police tactical team then began methodically evacuating the apartment building when it was clear the suspect was not going to come out, and was allegedly armed. 

After multiple hours of discussion, negotiators were able to convince Harris to allow a woman in the apartment to leave.&nbsp; Following multiple additional hours of discussion, negotiators convinced Harris to also leave the apartment and he peacefully surrendered at&nbsp;3:30 p.m., according to Fennelly.

&nbsp;Harris, of Lawrence, was turned over to investigators from the Wichita Police Department and is now being held on a $500,000 bond.

Man jailed after 16-hour standoff charged with Kansas murder

Just after 11a.m. Saturday, 911 dispatch in Sedgwick County received a call from a 911 operator from North Carolina reporting a possible homicide in the Wichita area, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

Based on the information given to the North Carolina 911 operator by a family member of the suspect, Wichita police officers were sent to two different locations, the 3900 block of E 17th Street North in Wichita and the 7600 block of E 21st Street N in Wichita.

Upon arrival at the 21st Street address, officers contacted 22-year-old Alexander Lewis and located Bronson's body of in the trunk of his vehicle. Officers pulled her body out of the trunk and provided life-saving measures until EMS arrived on the scene.

She was later pronounced deceased by EMS. Police arrested Lewis on requested charges of second-degree murder. He is expected to make a first court appearance later this week.

Help for Kansas family of woman found dead in trunk of car

LOS ANGELES (AP) — U.S. officials said Tuesday that the FBI and its European partners infiltrated and seized control of a major global malware network used for more than 15 years to commit a gamut of online crimes including crippling ransomware attacks.

They then remotely removed the malicious software agent — known as Qakbot — from thousands of infected computers.

Cybersecurity experts said they were impressed by the deft dismantling of the network but cautioned that any setback to cybercrime would likely be temporary.

“Nearly ever sector of the economy has been victimized by Qakbot,” Martin Estrada, the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles, said Tuesday in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/qakbot-malware-disrupted-international-cyber-takedown">announcing the takedown.</a>&nbsp;He said the criminal network had facilitated about 40 ransomware attacks alone over 18 months that investigators said netted Qakbot administrators about $58 million.

Qakbot's ransomware victims included an Illinois-based engineering firm, financial services organizations in Alabama and Kansas, along with a Maryland defense manufacturer and a Southern California food distribution company, Estrada said.

Officials said $8.6 million in cybercurrency was seized or frozen but no arrests were announced.

Estrada said the investigation is ongoing. He would not say where administrators of the malware, which marshaled infected machines into a botnet of zombie computers, were located. Cybersecurity researchers say they are believed to be in Russia and/or other former Soviet states.

Officials estimated the so-called malware loader, a digital Swiss knife for cybercrooks also known as Pinkslipbot and Qbot, was leveraged to cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damage since first appearing in 2008 as an information-stealing bank trojan. They said millions of people in nearly every country in the world have been affected.

Typically delivered via phishing email infections,&nbsp;<a href="https://attack.mitre.org/versions/v11/software/S0650/">Qakbot gave criminal hackers</a>&nbsp;initial access to violated computers. They could then deploy additional payloads including ransomware, steal sensitive information or gather intelligence on victims to facilitate financial fraud and crimes such as tech support and romance scams.

The Qakbot network was “literally feeding the global cybercrime supply chain,” said Donald Alway, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles office, calling it “one of the most devastating cybercriminal tools in history.” The&nbsp;<a href="https://blog.checkpoint.com/security/check-point-shares-analysis-of-qakbot-malware-group/">most commonly detected malware</a>&nbsp;in the first half of 2023, Qakbot impacted one in 10 corporate networks and accounted&nbsp;<a href="https://www.reliaquest.com/blog/the-3-malware-loaders-behind-80-of-incidents/">for about 30% of attacks globally,</a>&nbsp;a pair of cybersecurity firms found. Such “initial access” tools allow extortionist ransomware gangs to skip the initial step of penetrating computer networks, making them major facilitators for the far-flung, mostly Russian-speaking criminals who have wreaked havoc by stealing data and disrupting schools, hospitals, local governments and businesses worldwide.

Beginning Friday in an operation officials dubbed “Duck Hunt,” the FBI along with Europol and law enforcement and justice partners in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Latvia seized more than 50 Qakbot servers and identified more than 700,000 infected computers, more than 200,000 of them in the U.S. — effectively cutting off criminals from their quarry.

The FBI then used the seized Qakbot infrastructure to remotely dispatch updates that deleted the malware from thousands of infected computers. A senior FBI official, briefing reporters on condition he not be further identified, called that number “fluid” and cautioned that other malware may have remained on machines liberated from Qakbot.

It was the FBI's biggest success against cybercrooks since it&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/technology-politics-health-crime-us-department-of-justice-ed17a8853d78a9d0185af04cb8bd2fd2">“hacked the hackers”</a>&nbsp;with the January takedown of the prolific Hive ransomware gang.

“It is an impressive takedown. Qakbot was the largest botnet" in number of victims, said Alex Holden, founder of Milwaukee-based Hold Security. But he said it may have been a casualty of its own success in its staggering growth over the past few years. “Large botnets today tend to implode as too many threat actors are mining this data for various types of abuse.”

Cybersecurity expert Chester Wisniewski at Sophos agreed that while there could be a temporary drop in ransomware attacks, the criminals can be expected to either revive infrastructure elsewhere or move to other botnets.

Just after midnight On Monday,&nbsp; a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black 1992 Chevrolet Silverado near NE Jefferson Street and NE Paramore Street for an alleged traffic violation, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

During the investigation, illegal narcotics, open containers of alcohol and a stolen license plate were located.

Ryan W. Brooks, 36, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Brooks on requested charges of distribution of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, transporting an open container of liquor, driving while license suspended, no vehicle liability insurance, improper display of license plate and improper turn signal.

Sheriff: Kansas man was selling methamphetamine

KANSAS CITY– Three leaders and six members of a confederation of street gangs in the Kansas City metropolitan area have been indicted by a federal grand jury for their roles in an ongoing criminal enterprise that involved armed violence, including a murder conspiracy and drive-by shootings, and illegal drug trafficking, according to the United State's Attorney.

Steven K. Lee, also known as “Bizzle” and “SB,” 38, Charles V. Williams, also known as “Cheese” and “Chucky D,” 35, Travis L. Cook, also known as “Trav,” 30, Richard B. Johnson, also known as “Scritch” and “Rich,” 24, Deion D. Alford, also known as “Wommy,” 23, Ewon R. Kelley, also known as “Won,” 33, Myreku L. Frazier, also known as “Rekus,” 30, Anthony D. Hunter, also known as “Dee,” 25, and Jacequin Boswell, also known as “Nunu” and “Noodles,” 30, were charged in a six-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 17, 2023. That indictment was unsealed and made public today upon the arrests and initial court appearances of three of the defendants.

Cook, Lee, Williams, Kelley, and Hunter were all arrested in an operation on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Johnson and Alford are already in custody in connection with other charges. 

The operation involved more than 140 law enforcement officers from multiple local and federal agencies and searches of 16 residences associated with gang members. During the searches and arrests, law enforcement seized approximately 27 firearms, two machineguns, 1,069 rounds of ammunition, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, and bulk cash associated with the gangs. Additional seizures are still in the process of being logged into evidence.

According to the indictment, seven of the defendants—Lee, Johnson, Alford, Kelley, Frazier, Hunter, and Boswell—were members of an organized criminal enterprise, a gang called the Park Side Greasies, which is centered around the intersection of 33rd Street and Park Avenue in Kansas City, Mo. Members of Park Side Greasies allegedly engaged in acts of violence, including murder, conspiracy to murder, armed assault and robbery, and drug trafficking.

According to the indictment, Lee is the leader of Park Side Greasies. Williams leads Click Clack Gang and Cook leads South Benton Gang. Members of the three gangs maintain regular communication and frequently cooperate for the purpose of illegal drug trafficking and violent crimes, creating a confederation of gangs known as South Park Click. The gang alliance was memorialized in a 2013 song entitled “For Da 30’s,” the indictment says, which includes the verse “South Park Click. That’s South Benton, Park, and Click Clack. If somebody got shot, close your mouth – we probably did that. McDonald’s or Wendy’s, we don’t give a (expletive). You won’t move until the paramedics pick you up.”

Leaders, members, and associates of the criminal enterprise promoted a climate of fear in the community through repeated waves of gunfire, assaults, and destruction of property, among other crimes of violence and intimidation, the indictment says. They used and threatened to use physical violence to suppress challenges from rival criminals and others who threatened the enterprise. They enhanced their reputation for violence by killing, attempting to kill, and otherwise violently confronting people who challenged them. They enriched themselves, and funded the operations of the criminal enterprise, with the proceeds of illegal drug trafficking, robbery, and burglary.

The indictment charges all nine of the defendants in one count of participating in a racketeering conspiracy since at least Jan. 1, 2008. They allegedly engaged in a pattern of racketeering activity, including multiple acts and threats of murder, robbery, and drug trafficking as part of the criminal enterprise.

The indictment charges all nine of the defendants in one count of participating in a drug-trafficking conspiracy since at least Jan. 1, 2008. They allegedly conspired to distribute cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, PCP, alprazolam, oxycodone, and marijuana.

The indictment charges Lee, Johnson, Alford, Kelley, Hunter, and Boswell in one count of participating in a murder conspiracy since at least Dec. 8, 2017, in aid of the racketeering enterprise. Lee allegedly issued a contract for the murder of a rival gang member. Boswell located and attempted to shoot the victim in the area of 34th Street in Kansas City, Mo., but the victim successfully fled. Hunter shot at the victim on Dec. 30, 2018, reporting to Lee that they had “exchanged metal.” Kelley located the victim on Jan. 1, 2019, but was unable to execute the contract because too many people were around.

On Jan. 28, 2021, Johnson allegedly fired on multiple vehicles, believing them to be occupied by rivals, causing an injury to an uninvolved citizen and damaging property. Johnson is charged with one count of aiding and abetting another person to attempt to murder and to assault another person with a dangerous weapon, a Glock 9mm handgun. Johnson is also charged with one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

They allegedly conspired to distribute cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, PCP, alprazolam, oxycodone, and marijuana.The indictment charges Lee, Johnson, Alford, Kelley, Hunter, and Boswell in one count of participating in a murder conspiracy since at least Dec. 8, 2017, in aid of the racketeering enterprise. Lee allegedly issued a contract for the murder of a rival gang member. Boswell located and attempted to shoot the victim in the area of 34th Street in Kansas City, Mo., but the victim successfully fled. Hunter shot at the victim on Dec. 30, 2018, reporting to Lee that they had “exchanged metal.” Kelley located the victim on Jan. 1, 2019, but was unable to execute the contract because too many people were around.On Jan. 28, 2021, Johnson allegedly fired on multiple vehicles, believing them to be occupied by rivals, causing an injury to an uninvolved citizen and damaging property. Johnson is charged with one count of aiding and abetting another person to attempt to murder and to assault another person with a dangerous weapon, a Glock 9mm handgun. Johnson is also charged with one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on alleged rape in Kansas City, Kansas.

Just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a proactive officer approached 4 people loitering in front of a closed business in Lawrence, according to a social media report from police.

One of them provided a false name, but officers soon discovered who he was — and learned he was wanted on two counts of rape in Kansas and had other warrants.

 The suspect identified according to online booking records as 36-year-old Matthew A. Williams&nbsp; was arrested and transported to jail.  Officers discovered the suspect is a new to town and came Lawrence to hide.

Williams is being held on requested charges of rape in Wyandotte County and Failure to Appear in Douglas and Leavenworth County&nbsp;

Wanted Kansas rape suspect gave police a fake name

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting have identified the suspect as 34-year-old D’Metrius J. Robinson.

Just before 3:30a.m. August 25, police responded to a call about individuals trying to break into cars at the&nbsp;Englewood Apartment Complex, 57th and Main Street in Gladstone, according to a media release.

Someone had already broken into a number of cars at the complex before police arrived. Officers attempt to arrest Robinson and two other suspects. 

Investigators said Robinson tried to drive away and ended up dragging an officer in the process. According to police, the officer shot Robinson. He later died at a hospital. The officer was treated for minor injuries.

Law enforcement confirmed another suspect is in custody. Investigators have not said if a third person has been arrested since the incident.

Police ID suspect who died in KC-area officer involved shooting

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged child sex crimes.

Salina police received a call from the family of a sex abuse victim informing them of the alleged sexual abuse, according to&nbsp;Salina Police Lieutenant James Feldman.

On Sunday police arrested 56-year-old Delwin Wohlgemuth on the requested charges that include 30 counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child less than 14 years old and 30 counts of rape where the victim is less than 14 years old.

Feldman said the alleged sexual abuse took place over the course of multiple months.&nbsp;

Kansas man accused of child sex assault over many months

DAWSON COUNTY, Neb. —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect after a significant drug bust.

Just after 7:30 a.m. August 24, a trooper observed an eastbound Cadillac CTS speeding near&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lexington_Precinct,_Dawson_County,_Nebraska&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1">Lexington Precinct</a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;Interstate 80 in Dawson County, according to a media release from Nebraska State Patrol.

During the traffic stop, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed more than 100 packages containing a total weight of 133 pounds of marijuana. 

Troopers arrested the driver, Jose Aparicio Mendoza, 28, of Mexico, on requested charges of possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and no operator’s license. He is being held in Dawson County Jail.

Manhattan chiropractor accused of sex crimes at his office

 Based on the information given to the North Carolina 911 operator by a family member of the suspect, Wichita police officers were sent to two different locations, the 3900 block of E 17th Street North in Wichita and the 7600 block of E 21st Street N in Wichita.

Upon arrival at the 21st Street address, officers contacted 22-year-old Alexander Lewis and located Bronson's body of in the trunk of his vehicle. Officers pulled her body out of the trunk and provided life-saving measures until EMS arrived on the scene. 

She was later pronounced deceased by EMS. Police arrested Lewis on requested charges of second-degree murder.

The investigators are still working to fully determine what led up to the fatal incident and how the woman died.

Just before 1p.m. August 24, police&nbsp;were dispatched to St. Joseph Hospital for a rape report, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

Officers learned that 30-year-old Styles Crump had been identified as the suspect for this crime. 

Three weeks earlier,&nbsp; police arrested Crump for an earlier alleged rape. He was released from jail with GPS monitoring after posting bail with a local bondsman. Police quickly located and arrested him for the new alleged sexual assault.&nbsp;

Crump has been listed as a registered violent offender since a conviction in 2012 for criminal restraint involving a 16-year-old victim, according to online records.

Just after 4p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old woman from Columbia, Missouri sitting in a vehicle in the 400 block U Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.&nbsp; A&nbsp;person drove up next to the vehicle and fired a single shot.

A private vehicle transported the woman to a local hospital. She was later transferred to a Kansas City hospital, according to Wilson. Police have not reported an arrest or additional details.

ELLIS COUNTY —An Ellis County grand jury returned an indictment charging Ahmed Bandiou Keita and 34-year-old Kassie Lynn Day with one count each of first-degree murder for a child's death, according to a media release from the Ellis County Attorney's office.

The sole charge alleges that on May 14, 2015, in Ellis County,&nbsp; Keita and Day&nbsp; killed an infant, Marie Claire Keita while abusing the child.

On Thursday, police arrested Day and took her into custody. She is being held in the Ellis County Jail on a $500,000 bond.&nbsp;

There is an active arrest warrant for Ahmed Keita. His specific whereabouts are unknown at this time, according to the county attorney.

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a phone scam targeting families of KU students, according to University of Kansas Police.

Families have reported receiving calls claiming to be from the University of Kansas Police Department. The scammer states the student has been arrested and money has to be sent in order to secure the student's release.

Similar fraud calls have been reported at other college campuses.&nbsp;

Scammers may use actual law enforcement officers names and may disguise their phone numbers to seem as if they are calling from KUPD's on campus number. The scammer may also use information collected from social media and other web sites to make the situation appear real.

Common signs of a phone scam include creating a sense of urgency that payment has to be made immediately; using threats of coercion and demanding payment through online applicatons, gift cards or pre-paid debit cards.

If you receive one of these scam calls, hang up and report the incident to KU Police (785) 864-5900.

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a brawl that left a man seriously injured and have made six arrests.

Around 11:10 p.m., August 24, police were dispatched to report of a fight in progress in the 400 block of Davis Street in Garden City, according to a media release.

When Officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old man had been beaten. EMS transported the victim to St. Cather Hospital and he was later transferred to a hospital due to the extent of his injuries.

 Through the investigation police arrested&nbsp;Marc Guitron, 23; Braydon Leonard, 18; Evan Collier, 24,Hayden Varner, 16, and two 18-year-old women.

Guitron, Leonard, and Collier are being held on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Interference of law enforcement officer and Contributing to a Child’s Misconduct.

Varner was arrested on a requested charge of Aggravated Battery and released to his parents.

An affidavit for one 18-year-old woman was filed requesting the charges of Interference law enforcement&nbsp; and Contributing to a Child’s Misconduct. An affidavit for the other woman was filed requesting the charge of Interference with law enforcement.

6 accused in beating that sent SW Kansas man to the hospital

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating&nbsp; two armed robberies and have made three arrests.

On August 19, the Kwik Shop in the 6300 block of E. 13th St North in Wichita was robbed at gun point by two masked suspects, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

The suspects left with approximately $200 in cash and fled south towards 12th Street

On August 22, another armed robbery occurred at the Valero gas station in the 200 block of S. Hillside in Wichita. Two masked suspects came into the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint. 

Officers arrived on the scene and processed it and were able to gather evidence. 

From the evidence gathered, police identified three suspects involved with both armed robberies.

&nbsp;With the joint operation of investigators, police officers, and specialty units they were able to locate and arrest 18-year-old Carlos Meraz of Wichita, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy both of Wichita for aggravated robbery,

A Wichita Traffic Motor Officer arrived on the scene and contacted the driver, later identified as Nichilas Grady Shugart, 41, of Wichita, who then accelerated and drove away, striking and running over the officer’s lower leg.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Wichita Police were in pursuit of a Silverado driven by<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=285885">&nbsp;Shugart</a>&nbsp;westbound in the 2400 Block of 15th Street.

The Silverado ran the stop sign at North Meridan and struck a northbound 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Alicia Reico, 51, Wichita, on the the right front quarter panel.

EMS transported the Wichita Traffic Motor officer and Reico to a local hospital. Both had non-life-threatening injuries. The officer is being released from the hospital, according to Gupilan.

ATLANTA (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump">Former President Donald Trump</a>&nbsp;surrendered Thursday on charges that he illegally schemed to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-georgia-election-investigation-grand-jury-willis-d39562cedfc60d64948708de1b011ed3">overturn the 2020 election in Georgia</a>, a brisk 20-minute booking that yielded a historic first: a mug shot of a former American president.

 </figure>The Fulton County prosecution is the fourth criminal case against Trump since March, when he became&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-indictment-new-york-florida-hush-money-election-764309dce49f81a50bf9f610ffd5ceb6">the first former president in U.S. history to be indicted</a>. Since then, he's faced federal charges in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-justice-department-indictment-classified-documents-miami-8315a5b23c18f27083ed64eef21efff3">Florida</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-indicted-jan-6-investigation-special-counsel-debb59bb7a4d9f93f7e2dace01feccdc">Washington</a>, and this month he was indicted in Atlanta with 18 others — including his ex-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and former New York Mayor&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-giuliani-georgia-election-indictment-fulton-county-203b1e69cbff227a0bf8cc59a6bb645f">Rudy Giuliani</a>&nbsp;— under a racketeering statute normally associated with gang members and organized crime.<figure>

Meadows, who had sought to avoid having to turn himself in while he seeks to move the case to federal court, turned himself in Thursday. Bond was set at $100,000.The criminal cases have spurred a succession of bookings and arraignments, with Trump making brief court appearances before returning to the 2024 campaign trail. He's turned the appearances into campaign events amid a far lighter schedule than his rivals, with staff delighting in wall-to-wall media coverage that has included news helicopters tracking his every move.The campaign has also used the appearances to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-indictment-jan-6-presidential-race-alabama-805ab1fe729b4cc0b7562b7802ad68ef">solicit fundraising contributions</a>&nbsp;from his supporters as aides paint the charges as part of a politically motivated effort to damage his reelection chances. As Trump was en route from New Jersey to Atlanta, his campaign sent a message saying, “I’m writing to you from Trump Force One, on my way to Atlanta where I will be ARRESTED despite having committed NO CRIME.”As afternoon turned to evening, scores of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-maga-fans-surrender-jail-atlanta-election-c30e4836e3d9f2c9751cc38a6975c2bb">Trump supporters</a>&nbsp;had gathered outside the jail where the ex-president was to surrender, some waving flags with Trump’s name, as officials tightened security measures.District Attorney Fani Willis has given all of the defendants until Friday afternoon to turn themselves in at the main Fulton County jail. On Thursday, her office proposed an October 23 trial date, though the complexities of the 19-person case — and potential scheduling conflicts with other Trump prosecutions — would appear to make it all but impossible. The date seemed to be a response to early legal maneuvering by at least one defendant, Kenneth Chesebro, who requested a speedy trial.Just ahead of his expected surrender, Trump hired a new lead attorney for the Georgia case.Prominent Atlanta criminal defense attorney Steve Sadow took the place of another high-profile criminal defense attorney, Drew Findling, who had represented Trump as recently as Monday when his bond terms were negotiated. But by Thursday Findling was no longer part of the team, according to a person with knowledge of the change who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.Sadow, who has represented a rapper, Gunna,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/music-crime-atlanta-hip-hop-and-rap-2b84724c182d165c1704c4873e9dc6e8">who pleaded guilty last year in a racketeering case also brought by Willis</a>, said in a statement that “the president should never have been indicted. He is innocent of all the charges brought against him.”“We look forward to the case being dismissed or, if necessary, an unbiased, open minded jury finding the president not guilty," he added. "Prosecutions intended to advance or serve the ambitions and careers of political opponents of the president have no place in our justice system.”It’s not the first time this year that Trump has shaken up his legal team either in the run-up to an indictment or in the immediate aftermath. One of his lead lawyers, Tim Parlatore, left the legal team weeks before Trump was indicted in Florida on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-classified-documents-indictment-miami-court-e9412bb71b63ab1b7cfb8e8b122e9809">charges of illegally hoarding classified documents</a>, citing conflicts with a top Trump adviser. Two other lawyers, James Trusty and John Rowley, announced their resignations the morning after that indictment was returned.Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. He said in a social media post this week that he was being prosecuted for what he described in capital letters as a “perfect phone call” in which he asked the Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, to help him&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-joe-biden-donald-trump-georgia-elections-a7b4aa4d8ce3bf52301ddbe620c6bff6">“find 11,780 votes”</a>&nbsp;for him to overturn his loss in the state to Democrat Joe Biden.Trump is expected to turn himself in at the Fulton County jail, which has long been a troubled facility. The Justice Department last month&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/justice-department-fulton-county-jail-investigation-6851ae2610d8265ce793abde99695fd8">opened a civil rights investigation</a>&nbsp;into conditions, citing filthy cells, violence and the death last year of a man whose body was found covered in insects in the main jail’s psychiatric wing. Three people have died in Fulton County custody in the past month.But Trump is not expected to spend much time there.His attorneys and prosecutors have already agreed to a $200,000 bond, plus conditions that include barring the former president from intimidating co-defendants, witnesses or victims in the case.When defendants arrive at the jail, they typically pass through a security checkpoint before checking in for formal booking in the lobby. During the booking process, defendants are typically photographed and fingerprinted and asked to provide certain personal information. Since Trump’s bond has already been set, he will be released from custody once the booking process is complete.Unlike in other jurisdictions, in Fulton County, arraignments — in which a defendant appears in court for the first time — generally happen after a defendant surrenders at the jail and completes the booking process, not on the same day. That means Trump could have to make two trips to Georgia in the coming weeks though the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has said some arraignments in the case may happen virtually if the judge allows, or he could waive Trump's arraignment.
