KANSAS CITY (AP) —Ralph Yarl — a Black teenager who was shot in the head and arm last month after mistakenly ringing the wrong doorbell — walked at a brain injury awareness event Monday in his first major public appearance since the shooting.

The 17-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was shot while trying to pick up his younger brothers in April, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article275825626.html">Kansas City Star reported.</a>

Yarl walked with family, friends and other brain injury survivors Monday at Going the Distance for Brain Injury, a yearly Memorial Day race at Loose Park in Kansas City, Missouri.

“It takes a community. It takes a family. It takes a support group, all of that,” Yarl’s mother, Cleo Nagbe, said ahead of the race, adding: “Let’s raise more awareness to stop the things that cause brain injuries and should not be causing them, especially gun violence."

As many as 1,000 people raced through the park, including many in neon green T-shirts who registered to be part of “Team Ralph,” said Robin Abramowitz, executive director of the Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City.

“It’s important for Ralph to see that he is not alone,” Yarl’s aunt, Faith Spoonmore, said. She added that Yarl has debilitating migraines and issues with balance. He is also struggling with his emotions, mood changes and the trauma of the shooting.

Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old white man,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/yarl-motion-court-records-sealed-0bb0bab807449b383d243f450624b89a">is accused</a>&nbsp;of shooting Yarl. The teen had confused Lester's address with a home about a block away where he was supposed to pick up his siblings.

The shooting drew worldwide attention and prompted rallies and protests in the Kansas City area, with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/yarl-shooting-court-motion-seal-case-4198795a6a1e67d38f5cd49200ab8a15">critics saying</a>&nbsp;Lester was given preferential treatment when police released him just two hours after he was arrested.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's Interior Ministry on Monday issued an arrest warrant for U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham following his comments related to the fighting in Ukraine.

In an edited video of his meeting on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that was released by Zelenskyy's office, Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, noted that “the Russians are dying” and described the U.S. military assistance to the country as “the best money we’ve ever spent.”

While Graham appeared to have made the remarks in different parts of the conversation, the short video by Ukraine's presidential office put them next to each other, causing outrage in Russia.

Russian President Vladiir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented Sunday by saying that “it's hard to imagine a greater shame for the country than having such senators.”

The Investigative Committee, the country's top criminal investigation agency, has moved to open a criminal inquiry against Graham, and the Interior Ministry followed up by issuing a warrant for his arrest as indicated Monday by its official record of wanted criminal suspects.

Graham is among more than 200 U.S. members of Congress whom Moscow banned last year from entering Russia.

Graham commented on Twitter, saying that “to know that my commitment to Ukraine has drawn the ire of Putin’s regime brings me immense joy.”

“I will continue to stand with and for Ukraine’s freedom until every Russian soldier is expelled from Ukrainian territory,” he tweeted. “I will wear the arrest warrant issued by Putin’s corrupt and immoral government as a Badge of Honor.”

Russia issues arrest warrant for U.S. Senator over Ukraine comments

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after an arrest.

Just after noon Thursday,&nbsp;deputies with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 1800 block of SW 66th Street, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

 Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a woman and were giving commands for the man to exit the residence.

However, he jumped out a back window and fled the scene on foot. Other law enforcement officers, including a K9 Unit, arrived in the area to assist. The man was taken into custody in the 6600 block of SW Morrill Road.

Tanner B. Reed, 32, of Topeka, had a felony warrant for his arrest. Reed was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for his arrest warrant and requested charges that include possession of an opiate, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement.

Wanted Kansas suspect jumped out window of home 

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a man's murder reported another arrest on Saturday.

Just before 4a.m. April 30, police were dispatched to a shooting that took place in the 2800 block of East Stadium Drive in Wichita, according to a media release.

First responders located a man, identified as 36-year-old Christian Santiago, of Wichita, in the front passenger seat of a white SUV deceased.

The investigation revealed that 26-year-old Joseph Fiedler was connected to the murder. He was arrested and <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=224473">booked into the Sedgwick</a> County Jail on charges of First-Degree Murder.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In addition to Fiedler, three others including&nbsp;&nbsp;Adonis Andrews, 47, Jorge Romero, 48 and and Shaun O’Brien, 41, all of Wichita have been charged in the murder.

Police: Fourth suspect accused in Kansas man's murder

PHOENIX (AP) — Attorneys general across the U.S. joined in a lawsuit against a telecommunications company accused of making more than 7.5 billion robocalls to people on the national Do Not Call Registry.

The 141-page lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix against Avid Telecom, its owner Michael D. Lansky and company vice president Stacey S. Reeves. It seeks a jury trial to determine damages.

The lawsuit arises from the nationwide, bipartisan Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force of 51 attorneys general and the District of Columbia. It was formed last year to investigate and take legal action against telecommunications companies routing volumes of robocall traffic.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said nearly 197 million of the robocalls were made to Arizona phone numbers between December 2018 and January 2023.

“Every day, countless Arizona consumers are harassed and annoyed by a relentless barrage of unwanted robocalls — and in some instances these illegal calls threaten consumers with lawsuits and arrest,” Mayes said in a statement. “More disturbingly, many of these calls are scams designed to pressure frightened consumers, often senior citizens, into handing over their hard-earned money.”

The lawsuit said Avid Telecom used spoofed or invalid caller ID numbers, including more than 8.4 million calls that appeared to be coming from government and law enforcement agencies as well as private companies.

The company also allegedly sent or transmitted scam calls about the Social Security Administration, Medicare, Amazon and DirecTV, as well as auto warranties, employment and credit card interest rate reductions.

“Americans are sick and tired of their phones ringing off the hook with fraudulent robocalls,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement. “Seniors and vulnerable consumers have been scammed out of millions because of these illegal robocalls.”

The lawsuit alleges Lansky and Reeves violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Telemarketing Sales Rule and other federal and state telemarketing and consumer laws.

“Contrary to the allegations in the complaint, Avid Telecom operates in a manner that is compliant with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations,” said Neil Ende, the company’s outside legal counsel. “The company has never been found by any court or regulatory authority to have transmitted unlawful traffic and it is prepared to meet with the attorneys general, as it has on many occasions in the past, to further demonstrate its good faith and lawful conduct.

“In this context, the company is disappointed that the attorneys’ general chose not to communicate their concerns directly before filing the lawsuit," Ende added. “While the company always prefers to work with regulators and law enforcement to address issues of concern, as necessary, the company will defend itself vigorously and vindicate its rights and reputation through the legal process.”

Robocalls have also been an issue during elections in recent years. During the 2020 election, voters across the U.S. received anonymous robocalls in the weeks leading up to Election Day telling them to “&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/fbi-investigates-robocalls-warning-voter-b93c02e5dbec291bf04566e02e87c8be">stay safe and stay home</a>.”

Do not call: Kansas joins lawsuit over billions of robocalls

DOUGLAS COUNTY — Lawrence police spent Wednesday searching for a homeless man accused of a violent attack downtown in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street, according to police spokesperson Laura McCabe.

Just after 9:30p.m. first responders found a man and a woman with head injuries following an encounter with a suspect. The two victims were walking on the sidewalk when the suspect approached them and, without warning, began striking them with his fists before he left the area.

Just before 8a.m. Thursday officers were called to 12th and Pennsylvania Street about a man armed with a knife who matched the description of the Wednesday night suspect. Officers arrested&nbsp;34-year-old Deonte Darrell Jackson in a nearby backyard and took him to the Douglas County Correctional Facility, where he was booked on requested charges of aggravated battery, criminal damage, and disorderly conduct.

After concerns about downtown were raised last fall, Chief Rich Lockhart directed officers to conduct foot patrols beginning in November, and in light of the recent event is committed to increasing efforts to keep the downtown Lawrence safe and secure. “Our department is outraged by this event. As an agency and a city, we cannot tolerate this type of behavior," said&nbsp; Lockhart.

🎥Homeless man jailed after violence in downtown Lawrence

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two Army veterans who stormed the U.S. Capitol in a military-style formation with fellow members of the Oath Keepers were sentenced Friday to prison terms, a day after the far-right extremist group's founder received&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/stewart-rhodes-oath-keepers-seditious-conspiracy-sentencing-b3ed4556a3dec577539c4181639f666c">a record-setting 18-years behind bars</a>&nbsp;in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta sentenced Jessica Watkins, of Woodstock, Ohio, to eight years and six months behind bars and sentenced Kenneth Harrelson, of Titusville, Florida, to four years in prison.

A federal jury acquitted Watkins and Harrelson of the seditious conspiracy charge that Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/oath-keepers-founder-guilty-of-seditious-conspiracy-42affe1614425c6820f7cbe8fd18ba96">found guilty of in November</a>. But jurors convicted Watkins and Harrelson of other Jan. 6 charges, including obstructing Congress’ certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

Rhodes' 18-year term is the longest prison sentence that has been handed down so far in the hundreds of Capitol riot cases. The charges against leaders of the Oath Keepers and another extremist group, the Proud Boys, are among the most serious brought in the Justice Department's massive investigation of the riot.

Mehta agreed with the Justice Department that Rhodes and the other Oath Keepers' actions could be punished as “terrorism,” increasing the recommended sentence under federal guidelines.

But the judge ultimately gave Watkins and Harrelson far less time than prosecutors were seeking. The Justice Department had requested 18 years for Watkins and 15 for Harrelson.

Watkins and Harrelson marched toward the Capitol with other Oath Keepers members in “stack” formations as a mob of Trump supporters clashed with outnumbered police officers. Harrelson was the group’s “ground team lead” on Jan. 6. Watkins, who formed a separate Ohio-based militia group, recruited others to join the Oath Keepers in Washington that day.

Mehta said that while Watkins was not a top leader, like Rhodes, she was more than just a "foot soldier,” noting that at least three others charged in the riot wouldn’t have been there if she hadn’t recruited them to join.

“Your role that day was more aggressive, more assaultive, more purposeful than perhaps others," he told her.

Watkins tearfully apologized for her actions before the judge handed down her sentence. She condemned the violence by rioters who assaulted police, but conceded that her presence at the Capitol “probably inspired those people to a degree." She described herself as “just another idiot running around the Capitol” on Jan. 6.

“And today you’re going to hold this idiot responsible,” she told the judge.

The judge said Watkins' personal story of struggling for years to come to terms with her identity as a transgender woman made it especially difficult for him to understand why she has shown “a lack of empathy for those who suffered” on Jan. 6. Watkins&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/capitol-siege-ohio-veterans-government-and-politics-20f5b6007d9363bcf70ecf3e78bd7fd4">testified at trial</a>&nbsp;about hiding her identity from her parents during a strict Christian upbringing and going AWOL in the Army after a fellow soldier found evidence of her contact with a support group for transgender people.

Harrelson told the judge he went to Washington after another Oath Keeper offered him a “security job," but said he has never voted for a president in his life and doesn’t care about politics. Some of the Oath Keepers provided security for Trump ally Roger Stone and other right-wing figures at events before the riot.

“I have totally demolished my life,” he said as he broke down in tears. “I am responsible, and my foolish actions have caused immense pain to my wife and our children.”

Mehta said he doesn’t agree with the government’s portrayal of Harrelson as a “mid-level organizer” for the Oath Keepers. Unlike many other group members charged in the attack, Harrelson didn’t send any messages “that anyone would consider extremist,” the judge said.

But the judge said he was struck by an image of Harrelson patting down a police officer on his way out of the Capitol.

“You weren’t just there that day because you got swept in,” the judge told him.

During a nearly two-month trial in Washington's federal court, lawyers for Watkins and the other Oath Keepers argued there was no plan to attack the Capitol. She condemned the violence by rioters who assaulted police, but said she knows her presence at the Capitol “probably inspired those people to a degree." She described herself as “just another idiot running around the Capitol” on Jan. 6.

2 more Oath Keepers sentenced to prison for Jan. 6 Capitol attack

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting in Wichita and have made an arrest.

Just before 8 pm, Wednesday, police were dispatched to a Wichita hospital for a walk-in victim with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.&nbsp; The 50-year-old man had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

The investigation revealed the incident took place in the 2400 block of North Minnesota in Wichita. Officers learned that the victim had a verbal altercation with 56-year-old Kenneth James over an outstanding issue and after a brief physical altercation, James produced a gun and shot him.

Police arrested James on a <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=55632">requested charge of aggravated battery</a>.

KANSAS CITY —The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a warning about a suspect now on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten" target="_blank">Top Ten Most Wanted list&nbsp;</a>who is believed to be in Missouri.

On Thursday, Donald Eugene Fields II, 58, wanted for the alleged sex trafficking of at least one child in Missouri, was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, according to a statement from the agency.

The crimes occurred between 2013 and 2017. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Fields on December 8, 2022, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri after he was charged with sex trafficking of children.

According to a special agent in the FBI’s St. Louis Division, “Fields has allegedly demonstrated a pattern of abusing minor females in his circle that are entrusted to his care, manipulating them to earn their trust quickly and using their own resources to take advantage of them.”

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $250,000 for information leading to Fields’ arrest. This amount reflects the FBI’s decision in May 2023 to increase the reward from up to $100,000 to up to $250,000 to aid in capturing individuals on the the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Fields is 58 years old and has brown hair and hazel eyes. He is between 6’0” and 6’4” tall and weighs about 235 pounds. He is a white male with scars on his chest, his groin, his left calf, both legs, and both knees. Fields has worked as a tree trimmer, a resale shop owner, and an independent used car dealer.&nbsp;

Fields was last known to reside in Missouri; he has family there and in Kentucky. He is known to visit casinos and has traveled to Florida in the past.

On Thursday the sheriff's office reported the arrest&nbsp; of 31-year-old Brandon M. Gehrke of Topeka.&nbsp; He is being held on requested charges of&nbsp;aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal discharge of a firearm, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Just after 2:15a.m. May 14, deputies with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of multiple gunshots in the parking lot of Victoria’s Bar, 5011 SW Topeka Boulevard.

When law enforcement arrived, it was discovered that a 41-year-old man&nbsp; had engaged in a verbal altercation in the parking lot with a group of individuals associated with the Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club. Several shots were fired.&nbsp;

During the shooting, a vehicle that was arriving at the business to pick up an employee of the business was also fired upon. The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was struck multiple times by gunfire, but managed to flee the scene. The vehicle was located a short time later in the 4500 block of SW Topeka Boulevard. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

In addition, at the time of the shooting, a separate individual that had not been inside the bar and not involved in the original altercation, was sitting in his vehicle in the business parking lot when the shooting began. That individual then exited his vehicle with a firearm and also began shooting at the vehicle that was ultimately located by law enforcement in the 4500 block of SW Topeka Boulevard. That individual was also taken into custody on requested charges of aggravated assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal discharge of a firearm.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office reported four arrests.

Leon D. Smith-Love I., 28, of Topeka, is being held for aggravated assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Kathryn R. Hazelwood, 26, of Topeka is being held on requested charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charles D. Wheat, 42, of Topeka, is in custody on requested charges of&nbsp; aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Jason M. Blenden Sr., 49, of Topeka, was booked in on an arrest warrant and could face additional charges.

On Thursday the sheriff's office reported the arrest of Storm M. Morgan, 30, of Meriden, on requested charges of criminal discharge of a firearm.

Shawn M. Ray, 39, of Topeka, is in custody on requested charges of criminal discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement.

Another arrest in motorcycle club gun fight at Kansas bar

DICKINSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations in connection with arson and theft.

Just before 5:30a.m. Wednesday, police and fire crews responded to a house fire in the 300 block of NE Eighth Street in Abilene, according to a media release.

Moments later, police and fire were dispatched to a second house fire in the 500 block of SE Sixth Street in Abilene. Investigators have determined both fires were intentionally set.

Just before 6a.m. that same morning deputies responded to a burglary at Liberty Store, 601 S. Buckeye Avenue.

Officers determined the two fires and burglary were connected and committed by the same suspect. Just before 8a.m., officer located and arrested 25-year-old&nbsp;Dai’Reese M. Gelinas of Abilene a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar Street.

He is being held on requested charges of aggravated arson, burglary, theft, criminal threat and criminal damage to property.

 The fires caused. approximately $100,000 in damage. The burglary loss is estimated in excess of $500. The Kansas Highway Patrol and State Fire Marshal assisted with the investigation.&nbsp;

Kansas man accused of $100K arson fire, burglary

WASHINGTON (AP) — The founder of the Oath Keepers extremist group was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for orchestrating a weekslong plot that culminated in his followers attacking the U.S. Capitol in a bid to keep President Joe Biden out of the White House after the 2020 election.

Stewart Rhodes is the first person charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack to be sentenced for seditious conspiracy, and his sentence is the longest that has been handed down so far in the hundreds of Capitol riot cases.

It’s another milestone for the Justice Department’s sprawling Jan. 6 investigation, which has led to seditious conspiracy convictions against the top leaders of two far-right extremist groups authorities say came to Washington prepared to fight to keep President Donald Trump in power at all costs.

Before handing down the sentence, the judge told a defiant Rhodes that he is a continued threat to the U.S., saying it’s clear Rhodes “wants democracy in this country to devolve into violence.”

“The moment you are released, whenever that may be, you will be ready to take up arms against your government,” U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta said.

It was one of the most consequential cases brought by the Justice Department, which has sought to prove that the riot by right-wing extremists like the Oath Keepers was not a spur-of-the-moment protest but the culmination of weeks of plotting to overturn Biden’s election victory.

Prosecutors had sought 25 years for Rhodes, who they say was the architect of a plot to forcibly disrupt the transfer of presidential power that included “quick reaction force” teams at a Virginia hotel to ferry weapons into D.C. if they were needed. The weapons were never deployed.

In remarks shortly before the judge handed down the sentence, Rhodes slammed the prosecution as politically motivated, noted that he never went inside the Capitol and insisted he never told anyone else to do so.

“I’m a political prisoner and like President Trump my only crime is opposing those who are destroying our country,” Rhodes said.

In a first for a Jan. 6 case, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta agreed with prosecutors to apply enhanced penalties for “terrorism,” under the argument that the Oath Keepers sought to influence the government through “intimidation or coercion.” Judges in previous sentencings had shot down the Justice Department’s request for the so-called “terrorism enhancement” — which can lead to a longer prison term — but Mehta said it fits in Rhodes’ case.

Prosecutors argued that a lengthy sentence is necessary to deter future political violence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Rakoczy pointed to interviews and speeches Rhodes has given from jail repeating the lie 2020 election was stolen and saying it would be again in 2024. In remarks just days ago, Rhodes called for “regime change,” the prosecutor said.

People “across the political spectrum” want to believe that Jan. 6 was an “outlier,” Rakoczy said. “Not defendant Rhodes.”

A lawyer for Rhodes, who plans to appeal his conviction, said prosecutors are unfairly trying to make Rhodes “the face” of January 6. Attorney Phillip Linder told the judge that Rhodes could have had many more Oath Keepers come to the Capitol “if he really wanted to” disrupt Congress’ certification of the Electoral College vote.

“If you want to put a face on J6 (Jan. 6), you put it on Trump, right-wing media, politicians, all the people who spun that narrative,” Linder said.

Another Oath Keeper convicted alongside Rhodes in November — Florida chapter leader Kelly Meggs — was expected to receive his sentence later Thursday.

Two other Oath Keepers, acquitted of the sedition charge but convicted of other offenses, will be sentenced Friday. And four other members found guilty of seditious conspiracy at a second trial in January are scheduled to be sentenced next week.

The convictions were a major blow for the Oath Keepers, which Rhodes founded in 2009 and grew into one of the largest far-right anti-government militia groups. Recruiting past and present members of the military and police officers, the group promotes the belief that the federal government is out to strip citizens of their civil liberties and paints its followers as defenders against tyranny.

Rhodes’ sentence may forecast what prosecutors will seek for former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio, who was convicted of seditious conspiracy alongside other leaders of his far-right group this month for what prosecutors said was a separate plot to block the transfer of presidential power. The Proud Boys will be sentenced in August and September.

Rhodes, 58, and the other Oath Keepers said there was never any plan to attack the Capitol or stop Congress from certifying Biden’s victory. The defense tried to seize on the fact that none of the Oath Keepers’ messages laid out an explicit plan to storm the Capitol. But prosecutors said the Oath Keepers saw an opportunity to further their goal to stop the transfer of power and sprang into action when the mob began storming the building.

Messages, recordings and other evidence presented at trial show Rhodes and his followers growing increasingly enraged after the 2020 election at the prospect of a Biden presidency, which they viewed as a threat to the country and their way of life. In an encrypted chat two days after the election, Rhodes told his followers to prepare their “mind, body, spirit” for “civil war.”

In conference call days later, Rhodes urged his followers to let Trump know they were “willing to die” for the country. One Oath Keeper who was listening was so alarmed that he began recording the call and contacted the FBI, telling jurors “it sounded like we were going to war against the United States government.”

Another man testified that after the riot, Rhodes tried to persuade him to pass along a message to Trump that urged the president not to give up his fight to hold onto power. The intermediary — who told jurors he had an indirect way to reach the president — recorded his meeting with Rhodes and went to the FBI instead of giving the message to Trump. Rhodes told the man during that meeting that the Oath Keepers “should have brought rifles” on Jan. 6.

Before Thursday, the longest sentence in the more than 1,000 Capitol riot cases was 14 years for a man with a long criminal record who attacked police officers with pepper spray and a chair as he stormed the Capitol. Just over 500 of the defendants have been sentenced, with more than half receiving prison time and the remainder getting sentences such as probation or home detention.

Oath Keepers boss sentenced for Jan. 6 riot; ongoing threat

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged sex crimes.

Just after 5p.m. Wednesday, police arrested 24-year-old Chase Newberry, 24, of Manhattan was on&nbsp; Riley County District Court warrant for rape and two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

 This warrant stems from a March 23, 2022, rape in Manhattan involving a now 20-year-old female victim. 

Newberry remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $50,000.&nbsp; &nbsp;Police released no additional details.

Manhattan man held on $50K bond for alleged sex crimes

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a homicide have made an arrest.

Just after 12:30a.m. Sunday, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting in the 3000 block of East 79th&nbsp;St. South for a shooting call, according to Sheriff's spokesperson Robin Busch.

First responders found 20-year-old Armando Garcia from Wichita with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Deputies assisted with lifesaving efforts until Sedgwick County EMS arrived and transported him to an area hospital.&nbsp; He was pronounced dead at 01:17a.m., according to Busch.

Sheriff’s Detectives investigated the incident and booked 21-year-old Isac Monjaras from Haysville, on a requested charge of Involuntary Manslaughter.

Detectives do not believe this incident to be gang-related. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor. This case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Sheriff: Alcohol a possible factor in Kan. man's shooting death

ELLIS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a standoff in Hays.

Just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday the Hays Police Department received a report of a domestic disturbance in the 2700 block of Canal Blvd, according to a media release. The suspect was identified as 25yo Austin Boettcher.

 The police department received information that Boettcher was not allowing a female and her infant child to leave the apartment. 

Officers attempted to make contact, but the occupants did not open the door.

 Officers blocked off the area and cleared adjacent apartments and proceeded to work to gain compliance from the occupants of the apartment.

 The victim, another female roommate and the infant did come to the door and were evacuated to a safe location.

 Officers learned that Boettcher had crawled up into the attic and was not coming out.&nbsp; Announcements over a loudspeaker were used to try and de-escalate the situation and gain compliance from Boettcher. 

Eventually officers had to enter the apartment and the attic to gain compliance from Boettcher. 

Boettcher was arrested on requested charges of domestic battery, interference and an outstanding Ellis County Bench Warrant for aggravated battery, domestic battery, and intimidation of a witness or victim.

 Boettcher was transported to the Ellis County Jail.&nbsp;

Officers attempted to make contact, but the occupants did not open the door. Officers blocked off the area and cleared adjacent apartments and proceeded to work to gain compliance from the occupants of the apartment. The victim, another female roommate and the infant did come to the door and were evacuated to a safe location. Officers learned that Boettcher had crawled up into the attic and was not coming out.&nbsp; Announcements over a loudspeaker were used to try and de-escalate the situation and gain compliance from Boettcher. Eventually officers had to enter the apartment and the attic to gain compliance from Boettcher. Boettcher was arrested on requested charges of domestic battery, interference and an outstanding Ellis County Bench Warrant for aggravated battery, domestic battery, and intimidation of a witness or victim. Boettcher was transported to the Ellis County Jail.&nbsp;

Whether a person who is incarcerated in a correctional facility dies of foul play or natural causes in Kansas, the K.B.I. is in charge of investigating the cause of death.&nbsp;&nbsp;

First responders found a teen in the parking lot of an apartment complex who had been shot.&nbsp; &nbsp;EMS transported the boy to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Anyone with information that could assist the police in their investigation is asked to call the KCPD’s Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043. You can also anonymously call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information that is submitted to the TIPS Hotline and leads to an arrest in this case.

Police: Teen dead after shooting at KC apartment complex

 </figure>DALLAS COUNTY, Texas —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a triple- shooting and believe the teen suspect could be in the Kansas City-area.On Monday, police reported that just before 9:30p.m. Jan. 13, officers responded to a shooting call at the City of Rowlett Twin Star Park, 6417 Fairfield Drive in Rowlett, Texas, approximately 19 miles northeast of Dallas, according to a media release. Officers arrived and found two adults and one 14-year-old girl shot at the city park. All three victims are from the same family. Rowlett Fire Rescue transported them by ambulance to a local hospital where they were treated for gunshot wounds.The Rowlett Police Criminal Investigations Division began their investigation and it was determined that this was not a random act of violence but rather both parties were meeting at the city park after two of the juveniles had been involved in a school fight three days prior.
