KANSAS CITY —A jury found a man guilty in the fatal shooting of a woman in her vehicle near Downtown Kansas City, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

On Friday, the jury convicted 28-year-old Dakkota Siders, Independence, of Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.&nbsp;

According to court records, at approximately 3a.m. January 16, 2019, Kansas City police responded to Interstate 70 West near the Interstate 35 entrance ramp on a reported injury accident.

 Police found the victim, Barbra J. Harper, 71, deceased. She had suffered a gunshot wound. Holes in the headrest of the passenger's seat appeared to be from gunfire. 

The driver's side window was broken, as well as a passenger side window. Spent shell casings were found in the roadway nearby. Police detectives obtained surveillance video from city cameras and showed another vehicle speeding behind the victim's vehicle before the victim's vehicle swerves and strikes the guard rail. 

The vehicle speeding behind her vehicle exited onto Harrison Street from Interstate 70. Other video detected the sounds of two gunshots and showed the subject vehicle. 

Police determined the license plate number on the suspect vehicle and conducted surveillance on the residence associated with the plate. The defendant pulled into the driveway of that residence in what appeared to be the same vehicle. While he was arrested, police found a 9 mm handgun in his waistband, another 9 mm under his armpit, a large amount of cash and an I-phone. 

Another handgun was found inside as well as three pounds of marijuana with scales and sandwich baggies. During the investigation, detectives also learned of a disturbance and shots being fired near the Shady Lady on East 12th Street shortly before the homicide. 

Analysis of spent shell casing revealed they and those found near the homicide scene were fired from the same gun. Detectives believe the victim's vehicle may have been mistakenly targeted by the defendant after the Shady Lady incident.&nbsp;

Siders will be sentenced at a July 15 hearing, according to the prosecutor's office.

71-year-old KC-area woman killed in case of mistaken identity  

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man has been sentenced to prison for animal cruelty after killing his girlfriend's puppy and other crimes.&nbsp; &nbsp;Judge Eric Williams sentenced 46-year-old Jesse Powell to just over 2 and one half years in prison, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Powell pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal threat and a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In November of 2020,&nbsp; the Wichita police department Domestic Intervention Violence Reduction Team following up on a domestic violence threat case worked to locate Powell who was wanted on requested threat charges, Police learned Powell had fatally injured his girlfriend's puppy, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

Police located Powell and arrested him at a home in the 4200 block of South Broadway in Wichita.

He has previous convictions for stalking, forgery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated criminal threat, battery of a law enforcement officer and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.&nbsp;

Kansas felon who killed girlfriend's puppy is going back to prison

RILEY COUNTY —A Kansas man was&nbsp; injured in an accident just after 5:30p.m. Saturday in Riley County during a pursuit by law enforcement.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2109 Honda passenger vehicle driven by Javius Raekwon Forbes, 26, Fort Riley, was westbound on Kansas 18 approximately 6 miles east of Interstate 70 in the passing lane fleeing law enforcement. 

The Honda traveled into the median, struck a delineator post, traveled back onto the roadway, crossed over the westbound lanes off the roadway to the right and came to a stop in a wooded area.

EMS transported&nbsp;Forbes to Via Christi. A 26-year-old passenger was not wearing a seat belt and not transported for treatment of a possible injury.&nbsp; The KHP did not report what prompted the chase.

Forbes is being held on a $3000 bond on requested charges of possession of marijuana, Fleeing or attempt to elude a law enforcement officer; 1st conviction and Reckless driving, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Fort Riley man hospitalized after crash during police chase

BROWN COUNTY—One person was injured and another arrested after a crash during a chase by law enforcement just after 11a.m. Saturday in Brown County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Ram pickup driven by Liam Reilaine Odinson, 31, Denton,&nbsp;was traveling northeast across 130th Road while fleeing law enforcement. 

The pickup struck the ditch and came to rest at 130th Road, west of Horned Owl Road.

A passenger identified as Colton Lee Meyer, 24, Atchison, to Amberwell. Police took Odinson to jail on requested charges in connection to giving a worthless check, failure to appear, driving while license revoked and fleeing law enforcement.

Police have not released additional details or reported an arrest in these two incidents.

Police: 11-year-old Kansas girl injured in shooting

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas murder suspect captured by the U.S. Border Patrol <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=158988">is in jail in</a> Kansas.

On Thursday afternoon, police booked 32-year-old Patricio Gomez into the Sedgwick County Jail on <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=158988">requested charges</a> of first-degree murder, criminal possession of a firearm and a drug charges.

On March 28, U.S. Border Patrol Agents&nbsp;in the El Paso&nbsp;Sector&nbsp;arrested Gomez who was wanted for&nbsp;murder in Wichita.

The El Paso Station&nbsp;Border Patrol Agent encountered a Gomez walking along&nbsp;the south side of the Border Barrier&nbsp;near Fonseca Drive&nbsp;and Cesar E. Chavez/Border Highway, according to a media release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

When agents questioned the Gomez as to his citizenship, he stated that he was a U.S.&nbsp;citizen and that he had&nbsp;just&nbsp;entered the United States&nbsp;from Mexico, illegally,&nbsp;by attempting to drive his truck across the Rio Grande.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Gomez, was taken into custody, for the illegal entry,&nbsp;and transported to a Border Patrol station for further investigation.&nbsp;Record checks revealed that he had an extensive criminal history&nbsp;and an&nbsp;active&nbsp;warrant&nbsp;out of&nbsp;Wichita for&nbsp;murder.

Gomez was&nbsp;remanded to the&nbsp;custody of the&nbsp;El Paso County Sheriff’s&nbsp;Office until his extradition to Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On October 1, Wichita police issued an alert in an attempt to locate Gomez.

Just before 6:30p.m. Sept. 30, 2021. officers responded to a shooting call at a hotel in the 9400 block of East Corporate Hills.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located 42-year-old Michael Martinez who had been shot.&nbsp; He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The investigation revealed&nbsp;Patricio&nbsp;along with a woman arrived at the hotel regarding an illegal drug transaction.&nbsp; During the transaction, a disturbance ensued and&nbsp;Gomez&nbsp;fired multiple shots at Martinez, striking him.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gomez&nbsp;and the woman fled the scene in a black Cadillac Escalade.

Police located the Cadillac outside of a hotel in Park City.&nbsp;

Murder suspect captured at U.S. border extradited to Kansas 

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal July 2021 accident have made an arrest.

On Thursday, police arrested 81-year-old Russell Peterson of Randolph, on a Riley County District Court Warrant on requested charges of&nbsp; Murder in the 2nd Degree; unintentional but reckless, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that just after 8:30a.m. Sunday July 25, a 2006 Volvo semi driven by Russell Peterson, 81, Randolph was eastbound on Greet Randolph Road one half mile north of Randolph.

&nbsp;The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 77.&nbsp; The semi struck a northbound Acura driven by Adam Samuelson, 38, Randolph.&nbsp;

EMS transported Samuelson to Stormont Vail where he died.&nbsp;Peterson was not injured.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Thursday Peterson was issued a total bond of $100,000 and is not confined in the Riley County Jail, according to the RCPD.

Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, officers received a call for service for a robbery in the 1500 Block of Mulvane in Topeka by a known suspect, according to Police Captain Jerry Monasmith.

On arrival, officers observed the suspect a few blocks away, and he was taken into custody without incident. Once stopped, the suspect was found to have methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia in his possession. As a result 40-year-old Justin Ware from Topeka, was transported to the Shawnee County Department Of Corrections and is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Possession of methamphetamine, Possession of drug paraphernalia and Felony obstruction. 

He was on parole after convictions for robbery, aggravated battery, criminal threat, criminal damage to property and flee or attempt to elude police, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Police: Kan. felon on parole captured after reported robbery

ALLIANCE, Neb. — A Kansas man has been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors for allegedly causing the death of an Alliance woman.

The Box Butte County (Neb.) Attorney’s office has charged 36-year-old Ryan J. McElroy of Salina with motor vehicle homicide, manslaughter, third offense drunk driving and willful reckless driving.&nbsp;

The charges stem from an April 10 collision when McElroy hit a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Blythe Boness of Alliance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Boness was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred east of Alliance on Highway 2.&nbsp; &nbsp;

A Nebraska State Patrol arrest affidavit states that McElroy was driving on a suspended Kansas driver’s license.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The affidavit also states that Emergency Medical Personnel detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from McElroy and also viewed him to have bloodshot eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In McElroy’s vehicle, Troopers observed a half consumed 375 milliliter (12.6 oz) bottle of Fireball Whiskey.&nbsp;

McElroy told NSP that he had not been drinking, but stated he was looking at his phone when he veered into Boness’ lane.&nbsp;

McElroy was airlifted to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The arrest affidavit states that McElroy initially refused to submit to a blood test.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Nebraska State Patrol then obtained a warrant and a blood sample was drawn from McElroy to determine his blood alcohol concentration.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Box Butte County Court Judge Paul Wess has set McElroy’s bond at 10% of $100,000.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A warrant has been issued for McElroy’s arrest.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

An initial court date has not yet been scheduled.

Kan. man faces vehicular homicide charge after Neb. woman's death

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating two teens after an incident involving a gun.

Just after 9:30p.m. Tuesday, officers filed a report for aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm in the 1200 block of Yuma Street in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 14-year-old girl and 38-year-old woman reported a known 18-year-old woman pointed a gun at the victims. 

Ladashia Ransom, of Manhattan, was arrested in connection. She is being held on a bond of $21,000.&nbsp;

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating two teens after an incident involving a gun.Just after 9:30p.m. Tuesday, officers filed a report for aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm in the 1200 block of Yuma Street in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.A 14-year-old girl and 38-year-old woman reported a known 18-year-old woman pointed a gun at the victims. Ladashia Ransom, of Manhattan, was arrested in connection. RCPD: 2 jailed after 18-year-old allegedly pointed gun at victims

RENO COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas sex offender on new charges after an arrest.

The investigation started with an incident reported to patrol deputies in Reno County, according to a media release from the sheriff's department.

As detectives became involved, another victim and more incidents were reported. Deputies arrested&nbsp; 35-year-old Wayne J. Willard on requested charges that include three counts of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

According to a release from the Reno County Sheriff's Office, a 35-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on alleged sex crime charges.

Registered Kan. sex offender accused of new sex crimes

SCOTTSBLUFF, NEB.&nbsp; — The Nebraska State Patrol has cited a Kansas man for motor vehicle homicide after a two-vehicle crash claimed the life of an Alliance woman Sunday, according to a media release from the agancy.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. Sunday, near Alliance on Highway 2. A Ford Escape, driven by Blythe Boness, 22, of Alliance, was traveling eastbound on Highway 2 when it was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Ryan McElroy, 36, of Salina, Kansas. The collision caused the Escape to roll into the ditch, ejecting Boness. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

McElroy was extricated from his vehicle by the Alliance Fire Department and flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with serious injuries. McElroy remains at the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Following investigation, McElroy has been cited for motor vehicle homicide, willful reckless driving, DUI – 3rd&nbsp;offense, possession of an open alcohol container, and driving under suspension. Once released from the hospital, he will be lodged in jail.

Kansas man accused in DUI crash that killed Nebraska woman

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A former corrections officer at the Jackson County Detention Center was sentenced Tuesday to 14 months in federal prison for taking bribes to smuggle illegal drugs to inmates.

Daniel Coach, 27, was also ordered to repay $3,631 in bribes he took between March 2020 and March 2021, federal prosecutors said.

Coach pleaded guilty on Dec. 3 to participating in a conspiracy to smuggle contraband into the detention center.

Former KC-area jail officer sentenced for taking bribes

A Salina man has been arrested on multiple requested drug and weapons charges after he allegedly stole items from a female acquaintance.

On Monday morning, a Salina woman told police that Payton Rice, 26, of Salina, had stolen various electronics, cash, and prescription pills from her residence in the 200 block of S. 10th Street, according to Salina Police Sergeant Kyle Tonniges. The property was valued at approximately $3,900.

Later on Monday, an officer spotted Rice driving in the 800 block of W. Crawford and pulled him over. According to Tonniges, Rice stopped his vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Rice was taken into custody.

Tonniges reported that a majority of the stolen property was located in the vehicle Rice had been driving. Officers also located a handgun that was reported stolen in Riley County along with sale quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. Additionally, several personal items belonging to the victim of a March 31 vehicle burglary in the 400 block of Baker Street were located, Tonniges noted.

Rice is being held on requested charges that include Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, No drug tax stamp, Felony possession of drug paraphernalia, Felony interference with law enforcement. Possession of marijuana, Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, Felony theft, Possession of a stolen firearm and Burglary.

Police: Kansas man caught with cocaine, stolen handgun

SALINE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman in connection with burglary involving over a dozen guns at a home in Saline County.

Sometime between 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, a number of items including 14 guns, a 4-wheeler, generator, welding equipment and a financial card were taken from&nbsp; a residence in the 700 block of Melbert Avenue in Gypsum, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

The financial card was used at Dunham Sporting Goods and Five Guys in Salina. An attempt also was made to use the card at Walmart, but it was declined, he said.

The sheriff's office received a tip that the stolen items might be at a residence in west Salina. Deputies went to 603 Jameson Avenue and found the four-wheeler under a tarp in front of the residence. 

A search warrant for the residence was then obtained. A number of the items stolen from Gypsum were located. However, some of the guns have yet to be located, according to Soldan.

Deputies arrested a resident at 603 Jameson Avenue identified as Christine Williams, 32, of Salina. She is being held on requested charge that include Burglary, Felony theft and Unlawful use of a financial card.

Soldan said additional arrests are expected in the case.

Lamb&nbsp; confirmed that the individual had a knife and a handgun. No one was injured.&nbsp;

Police make an arrest on an aggravated robbery allegation

DICKINSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting on Interstate 70 and have made an arrest.

Just after 9p.m. Sunday, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 100 Dakota Drive (Dollar General) in Solomon, Kansas for a report of a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound, according to a social media report from the sheriff's office.

 The investigators learned that 27-year-old Samantha E. Baum of Topeka, Kansas sustained a single gunshot wound while driving westbound on Interstate 70 near Solomon. 

EMS transported Baum to Salina Regional Health Center where she died, according to the sheriff.

 As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested 48-year-old Eric S. Wymore of Beulah, Colorado on requested charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and booked into the Dickinson County Detention Center where he was held without bond pending first appearance in court.

Suspect in custody after woman dies in shooting on I-70

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The medical technician who drew blood from New Hampshire Rep. Peter Schmidt after he broke his leg in February was registered with the state, thanks to a 2014 law enacted after a traveling medical technician infected dozens of people with hepatitis C.

But by the time Schmidt was back on his feet, colleagues had hijacked his bill aimed at improving the registry. House lawmakers passed a bill last month eliminating the registration requirement altogether, and Schmidt is now urging senators to reject it.

“Please do not pass this, this is a terrible idea,” Schmidt said. “I think we need to continue to register these medical technicians, otherwise we are opening ourselves up to a potential repeat of the Exeter experience.”

New Hampshire created the Board of Registration for Medical Technicians in response to David Kwiatkowski, who is serving 39 years in prison for stealing painkillers and replacing them with saline-filled syringes tainted with his blood.

At the time, officials hoped the board would become a model for other states, but that hasn’t happened. And those who want to ditch it say it creates unnecessary bureaucracy at a time when health care facilities are struggling to hire workers.

“The actions of one bad actor, however heinous, are not reason to require thousands of technicians to register and pay fees,” said Rep. Carol McGuire, R-Epsom, when the House passed the bill last month.

But Linda Ficken, a Kansas woman who contracted hepatitis C from Kwiatkowski in 2011, said she believes any medical worker with access to drugs should be registered and should undergo frequent drug testing.

“Every time I go into the hospital, I can’t help but wonder, is this a repeat?” she said. “Cured or not, the thoughts and anxiety are still there.”

Despite being fired numerous times over drug allegations, Kwiatkowski had worked in 18 hospitals in seven states before being hired in at Exeter Hospital in New Hampshire. After his arrest in 2012, 46 people in four states were diagnosed with the same strain of the hepatitis C virus he carries, including one who died in Kansas.

In all, 32 patients were infected in New Hampshire, seven in Maryland, six in Kansas and one in Pennsylvania. Kwiatkowski also worked in Michigan, New York, Arizona and Georgia.

The case highlighted the fact that medical technicians aren’t as closely regulated as nurses or doctors, whose misconduct and discipline are tracked via a nationwide database. While some states require certain technicians to be licensed, four of the states where he worked didn’t license any of them at the time of his arrest, including New Hampshire.

The registry New Hampshire eventually created applies to all health care workers who are not otherwise already licensed or registered and have access to both patients and drugs. Hospitals are required to report disciplinary actions to the board, which also investigates complaints and takes disciplinary action.

The board has struggled to maintain a quorum, however, and hasn’t met in more than a year, said Lindsey Courtney, director of the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification.

“We’re greatly concerned the state is not meeting its obligation to protect the public,” she said at a public hearing.

Courtney, who isn’t taking a position on eliminating the board, supported Schmidt’s original proposal to convert it to an advisory panel that would make recommendations to her office. There are currently 1,691 registered technicians, and although complaints are rare, the board has taken action in a handful of cases each year.

Schmidt said his goal was to shift some of the administrative burden from the board to the larger agency. He hopes the Senate will either kill the amended bill or return to his original idea.

While hospitals are on the front lines of preventing and responding to drug diversion, partnering with public health, licensing and law enforcement agencies is essential, said Dr. Matthew Crist, a medical officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

He said the CDC isn’t aware of outbreaks in recent years related to drug diversion and is cautiously optimistic given that health care facilities have improved security around controlled drugs, and many state licensing agencies have taken steps to improve communication across state lines.

In the decade before Kwiatkowski’s arrests, similar hepatitis C outbreaks had been traced to other hospital technicians in Texas, Colorado and Florida, and CDC officials said at the time that the Kwiatkowski case highlighted a problem that was a growing concern across the public health system.

Even though other states didn’t follow New Hampshire’s lead, the registry likely has deterred people like Kwiatkowski from coming to the state in the first place, said state Sen. Tom Sherman, D-Rye, who led the bipartisan effort to create the board.

Sherman, a gastroenterologist who is running for governor, played a key role in discovering Kwiatkowski’s misconduct when he and his colleagues noticed a cluster of hepatitis C cases among their patients and realized they all had been treated in Exeter Hospital’s cardiac catherization lab. He’s now urging his fellow senators to consider “the price of doing an experiment to see what happens if we get rid of the board.”

“People died because of that outbreak,” he said. “This was a very carefully thought-out solution that has worked. To take it away now means we just don’t learn from history.”

Decade after hepatitis outbreak, medical registry might end

KANSAS CITY – Four Kansas City-area men have been indicted for their role in a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, which resulted in an overdose death, according to the United State's Attorney.

Dmitry Cattell, 22, Joseph Burgess, 21, and Jordon Simmer, 20, all of Kansas City, Mo., and Kelton Hill, 22, of Parkville, Mo., were charged in a nine-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City.&nbsp; That indictment was unsealed and made public following the arrests of all four defendants on Thursday, April 7. They remain in federal custody pending a detention hearing on April 12, 2022.

The federal indictment alleges that all four defendants have participated in a conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl since Sept. 12, 2019.

In addition to the drug-trafficking conspiracy, the indictment charges Cattell and Simmer with aiding and abetting each other to distribute fentanyl, the use of which caused the death of another person, on May 18, 2020. The victim of the fatal overdose is not identified in court documents.

Cattell is also charged with two counts of distributing fentanyl, one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and one count of being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm. Cattell allegedly was in possession of a Taurus handgun on Nov. 10, 2020.

Simmer, Burgess, and Hill each are also charged with one count of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

4 indicted for KC-area fentanyl conspiracy that led to death

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating six suspects following two separate drug busts in Shawnee County.

On April 6, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office DEU arrested Wanda L. Edmonds, 33, of Topeka for a warrant at 1100 NW Harrison Street.&nbsp; During the investigation, illegal narcotics, including over 45 grams of methamphetamine, were located, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Wanda L. Edmonds, 33, of Topeka was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Edmonds on requested charges that included possession with intent to distribute and using a telecommunication device to commit a felony.

Also on April 6, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Task Force, including the Topeka Police Department and Rossville Police Department, conducted a search warrant at 3366 SE Fremont Street. During the investigation illegal narcotics, including over 100 grams of methamphetamine, and illegal firearms were located.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Deputies arrested Timothy L. Weaver, 33, of Topeka had two warrants for his arrest and was booked on requested charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of paraphernalia with intent to distribute controlled substances and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Cortney R. Richards, 31, of Topeka was jailed on requested charges of&nbsp; possession with intent to distribute, possession of paraphernalia with intent to distribute controlled substances and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Elizabeth K. Kunard, 33, of Topeka had warrants for her arrest and was held on requested charges of possession of an opiate/opium/narcotic/certain stimulant and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia into the human body.

Roy F. Huske IV, 29, of Topeka had a Topeka bench warrant for his arrest.

Michelle L. Baker, 34,&nbsp; of Topeka had three Topeka bench warrants for her arrest, according to Deputy Christian.

Kansas drug investigation leads to 6 arrests at two homes

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after an arrest.

&nbsp;On April 4th police officers responded to a disturbance in the 1900 block Harper Drive and subsequently arrested Jason E. Alexander, 50, for domestic battery, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson

During the investigation of the domestic disturbance information was developed that a burglary had occurred several hours earlier at a nearby residence in the 1900 block Harper Drive. 

Officers went to the residence where the resident was not home and determined that forced entry was made into the residence. The resident was later located and it was discovered that various household items, a lawnmower, a grill, an eagle statue, a tool bag, and other items totally a value of about $3,900 had been taken. 

Many of the items were recovered during the investigation. [Alexander was still in custody on the domestic battery case when he was served on Friday morning with the new charges.

On Friday, Police arrested Alexander on a District Court warrant for burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property.&nbsp;

Alexander has been jailed over a dozen times since 2004 is in custody&nbsp;

In 2015, police arrested Alexander for alleged theft and failure to appear. He has previous convictions for theft, DUI and aggravated battery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections and has been out of prison since 2017.

On January 28, officers were dispatched to the 900 Block of NW 25th street in Topeka on a report of an alarm activated at a business, according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith.

Upon arrival, officers located damage to the business and items missing. 

Another burglary was reported at the same business on March 1 with similar results. As the investigation unfolded and through the assistance from the community, a person of interest was identified.

As a result of the investigation, Bradley Martin, 58 years of age, of Topeka, was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections and booked in on requested&nbsp;charges, Burglary to a business, Two Counts, Theft, Two Counts and Criminal Damage to Property, Two Counts.

Just after 7:00 a.m. Saturday, a citizen who had seen the social media postings about this vehicle called police to report it sitting in the 500 block of SE Lake Street in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Matt Danielson.

Officers were able to confirm that this was the correct vehicle, and it was unoccupied. The contents of the truck were no longer inside.&nbsp;
