KANSAS CITY– A former Kansas City man pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to robbing Arvest Bank, according to the United State's Attorney.

Jamarious K. Braxton, 32, of Memphis, Tennessee, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to one count of bank robbery.

By pleading guilty today, Braxton admitted that he walked into Arvest Bank, 8959 E. 40 Hwy., on Oct. 21, 2017, and handed a teller a demand note. Braxton verbally demanded $4,000 and threatened to shoot the teller in the face. The teller handed Braxton $2,100, and Braxton left the bank.

On Jan. 12, 2018, a report was made to the FBI Public Access Line by a former co-worker of Braxton’s in Kansas City, Mo., and Independence, Mo., who recognized Braxton and identified him as the bank robber. 

Federal agents learned that Braxton had an active arrest warrant for robbery in Memphis. On Jan. 19, 2018, the FBI was contacted by a law enforcement officer in Tennessee who reported that Braxton had been arrested for robbing a bank in Memphis shortly after the Arvest Bank robbery.

Investigators compared Braxton’s DNA and fingerprint with evidence collected after the Arvest Bank robbery.

Braxton pleaded guilty to the Memphis bank robbery and has been sentenced in that case. Under the terms of Friday’s plea agreement, Braxton will be sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole and must pay $2,100 in restitution to Arvest Bank. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Man enters plea in 2017 Kansas City bank robbery

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a drug bust at Kansas home.

On Monday, members of the Topeka Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Shawnee County Drug Task Force served a search warrant in the 400 BLK SE 34th related to an ongoing investigation, according to Police Lt. Jerry Monasmith.

 While conducting the search warrant, officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and a firearm.

As a result, police arrested Matthew Hoag, 30 and Alexandra Dwyer, 23, both of Topeka. They were transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Hoag is being held on requested charges that include Possession of methamphetamine with the intent of distribution, Criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, Aggravated endangering a child, Possession of marijuana and Possession of drug paraphernalia with intent of distribution. 

Dwyer is jailed on requested charges of&nbsp;Possession of methamphetamine with the intent of distribution, Aggravated endangering a child, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia with intent of distribution and Possession of stolen property, according to Monasmith.

2 jailed after drug task force investigation at Kansas home

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a weekend theft and have made an arrest.

On Sunday, officers arrested 52-year-old Dennis R. Coots, Atchison, for theft and criminal trespass at Holiday Inn Express, 401 Main in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He was also jailed for criminal trespass in the 200 block North 9th in Atchison, according to Wilson.&nbsp; Coots remains in custody.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed remained with his family in northern Louisiana on Sunday, two days after his oldest brother was stabbed and killed by a woman in an altercation involving a large kitchen knife.

T’Qarontarion “TQ” Harrison, who largely raised Sneed as a child, was stabbed in the town of Minden, where police chief Steve Cropper said the 32-year-old Harrison “died from a single stab wound to his back that punctured his lung.”

Angela Washington, 47, has been charged with second-degree homicide. Authorities didn’t offer a motive, though a kitchen knife was found at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear if she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

“Such a tragic situation,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said after a 48-9 romp over the Raiders, “and as a brotherhood and as an organization, we're going to support our brothers. I thought our guys played hard for them today. We got the win. I'm just praying for him and his family because it's a tough deal.”

Harrison tried to drive himself to a local hospital but crashed his vehicle into the building, Cropper said. Harrison eventually was transported to another medical center, where he died following an emergency surgery.

“L'Jarius, our hearts go out to him,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “Great kid, great player. It's a tough deal. Our organization stepped up and got everybody where they needed to be to go through the grieving process.”

Sneed told The Kansas City Star in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article255887666.html">a story published last month</a>&nbsp;that he credits Harrison for raising him while his parents were incarcerated. At 9 years old, Harrison changed diapers, ironed clothes and walked his brother to school, helping keep him on the right path until Sneed's mother was released from prison.

Harrison referred to 24-year-old Sneed as “my little dude” when talking with the newspaper, and he described their relationship as “closer than most brothers because of what we went through in life.”

Sneed eventually earned a scholarship to Louisiana Tech, where he switched from wide receiver to defensive back and began to flourish. He was second-team All-Conference USA, then impressed scouts enough during the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl following his senior season that Kansas City selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 draft.

Sneed intercepted a pass in his first career game, only to break his collarbone in Week 3 against Baltimore. He returned to finish last season, helping Kansas City win a second straight AFC championship and reach another Super Bowl.

He's been one of their best defensive players in 2021, playing more snaps than anybody else before Sunday's game.

“Most of us can relate to that, losing people,” Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “We just wanted to play well for him today, for his family. I thought we did that. We started the game with a little L’Jarius energy and we kept that going.”

Update: Chiefs cornerback’s brother fatally stabbed in Louisiana

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man man arrested after he was involved in a standoff with police on Monday while sitting in a U-Haul truck in Wichita made a court appearance Tuesday for other crimes.

AC Dwayne Gibson, 58 of Goddard, is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and interference with law enforcement.&nbsp; From an incident on May 28, 2021, involving a sheriff’s sergeant, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

In another case from April of 2021, Gibson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, no proof of insurance and having an expired tag. This case involved Wichita Police.

He is scheduled for a bench trial on these charges before Judge Bruce Brown on December 12.

Wichita Police have not presented their evidence in the case involving Monday's 6-h0ur standoff with police&nbsp; and a U-Haul truck.&nbsp;Gibson remains jails on a bond of $75,000, according to the district attorney's office.

Kansas man jailed after police standoff charged for 2 other crimes 

LABETTE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a case of alleged felony animal cruelty are offering a reward for information in the case.

On Dec. 3, an off duty police officer in the city of Parsons reported their dog 'Ranger' had been killed at a home in the 1400 Block of South 14th Street, according to a media release.

Ranger was a 3-month-old, black, pure bred German Shepherd. The owners let the dog out into a fenced back yard at approximately 7a.m. Just after 2p.m. the owners found the puppy with its head severed, according to the release.

Investigators believe the puppy was removed from the yard by a suspect, taken to another location and killed. Then in a brazen act, the suspect returned the decapitated body and muzzle of Ranger to the police officer's back yard, according to the release.

The crime of cruelty to an animal is a felony for knowingly and maliciously killing an animal. Additionally police would consider requesting a charge of criminal trespass in the case.

Because this was a targeted attack on a Parsons police officer, the Police Department is now offering a $4000.00 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

MANHATTAN —Law enforcement authorities investigating a suspicious "Discord chat" concerning a possible threat of violence at Eisenhower Middle School, 800 Walters Drive, Manhattan, have arrested a 12-year-old student of the Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 School District, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Police have uncovered no evidence the student planned on, made an effort, or had the means to ever carry out a violent act at Eisenhower Middle School or in the community.

School principal Tracy Newell told families in an email, "it has been brought to the attention of school administration that on Thursday morning, Dec. 9, a social media post was made about a possible school shooting at the middle school."  According to Newell,  the RCPD notified the school staff of the alleged threat.

&nbsp;Police released no additional details.

RCPD arrest 12-year-old for alleged threat at Eisenhower Middle School

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas felon jailed for a violent, fatal stabbing made his first court appearance on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Goldy Metcalf, 36, is charged with 1st&nbsp;degree murder, attempted 1st&nbsp;degree murder, aggravated burglary, burglary, theft, two counts of criminal damage to property, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass, according to the Sedgwick County District attorney's office.

Just after 8 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a disturbance with a weapon at a home in the 600 block of South Green in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

 Upon arrival, officers located a 64-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. 

EMS transported both victims to an area hospital where the 64-year-old woman died, according to Davidson. The 73-year-old man had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a call in the 1800 block of North Kansas regarding a citizen who had 36-year-old Goldy L. Metcalf of Wichita at gunpoint for unlawfully entering his vehicle.&nbsp; 

Metcalf was cooperative with officers, cited for misdemeanor tampering with an automobile, and given a courtesy transport to St. Francis Hospital for medical treatment due to a previous injury to his mouth, according to Davidson.

Metcalf left St. Francis against medical advice and at approximately 8 a.m. stole a blue Ford pick-up in the 600 block of North Waco that was left running.

Metcalf fled in the truck and crashed it into a building in the 600 block of South Green. Metcalf then fled the scene and forced his way into the residence on South Green, where he stabbed the two victims. Metcalf fled from that residence and entered an unoccupied residence in 600 block of South Erie, and attempted to gain access to a church in the same block. Thanks to information provided by citizens, police responded quickly, located&nbsp; Metcalf and arrested him.

Metcalf was paroled from prison in July and has prior convictions for aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm, burglary, flee law enforcement, and aggravated robbery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

His next court appearance is scheduled for December 20, according to the district attorneys office. He remains jailed on a bond $507,500.&nbsp;

The 73-year-old man had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.The investigation revealed at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a call in the 1800 block of North Kansas regarding a citizen who had 36-year-old Goldy L. Metcalf of Wichita at gunpoint for unlawfully entering his vehicle.&nbsp; Metcalf was cooperative with officers, cited for misdemeanor tampering with an automobile, and given a courtesy transport to St. Francis Hospital for medical treatment due to a previous injury to his mouth, according to Davidson.Metcalf left St. Francis against medical advice and at approximately 8 a.m. stole a blue Ford pick-up in the 600 block of North Waco that was left running.Metcalf fled in the truck and crashed it into a building in the 600 block of South Green. Metcalf then fled the scene and forced his way into the residence on South Green, where he stabbed the two victims. Metcalf fled from that residence and entered an unoccupied residence in 600 block of South Erie, and attempted to gain access to a church in the same block. Thanks to information provided by citizens, police responded quickly, located&nbsp; Metcalf and arrested him.Metcalf was paroled from prison in July and has prior convictions for aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm, burglary, flee law enforcement, and aggravated robbery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.His next court appearance is scheduled for December 20, according to the district attorneys office. He remains jailed on a bond $507,500.&nbsp;

Kan. man paroled in July, charged with killing woman in her home

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman in connection with a crime reported in November.

Just before 9:00AM on November 20, police responded to a burglary that had occurred at an apartment in the 200 block North 3rd in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 The subsequent investigation determined that forced entry had been made during the night into an apartment located within the apartment complex. 

The suspects took clothing and household items.

 Two suspects identified as Kala Woods and Janice Jimenez-Saavedra were taken into custody on November 20 and charged with burglary and theft in the case.

On Wednesday police arrested Tamara K. Mies, 56, Atchison, on a District Court warrant for burglary and theft. She is being held on a $25,000 Bond, according to Wilson.&nbsp;

Police have arrested Mies seven times over the past six years for a variety of alleged crimes including aggravated failure to appear, according to online jail records.

Police arrest 3rd suspect in Kansas apartment burglary

SWAT teams from the Salina Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol were able to talk a Saline County man out of a residence east of Salina Wednesday night after an alleged domestic violence incident that left an 83-year-old man injured.

According to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan, deputies were called to the Salina Regional Health Center emergency room at approximately 4:40 p.m. Wednesday for the report of an 83-year-old man who was being treated for head injuries after an alleged incident at his home east of Salina. 

Deputies were told that the man was struck in the head with a handgun by a family member who Soldan identified as 43-year-oild Lance Clemence.

When deputies were unable to make contact with Clemence at the residence in the 6400 block of Country Club Road, the sheriff's office called in the Salina Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol SWAT teams to assist, Soldan said.

At approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday, the SWAT teams were able to make contact with Clemence and talk him out of the house without incident, according to Soldan.

Clemence was arrested on the following requested charges of Criminal threat, Criminal restrainn, Aggravated assault, Aggravated battery, and Interference with law enforcement officers/obstruction. The 83-year-old man has been released from the hospital, according to Soldan.

Just before 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Northeast 120 Avenue and NE 10 Road north of Ellinwood for an equipment violation, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.&nbsp;

During the course of the traffic stop, deputies became suspicious and obtained consent to search the vehicle. During the investigation, approximately 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. Deputies also located $2,300 in U.S. currency. The suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash were seized by officers.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene. He was identified as Swen Finnigan, age 39 of Great Bend.

Finnigan was transported to the Barton County jail without incident where he was booked on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Finnigan is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

“For those like me who had the honor of calling him a friend, Bob Dole was an American giant,” President Joe Biden said in a Wednesday speech in Kansas City, Missouri.

Biden, a Democrat, called Dole “a man of extraordinary courage, both physical and moral courage.”

“A war hero, who sacrificed beyond measure,” Biden said. “Who nearly gave his life for our country in World War II. Among the greatest of the great generation.”

The service underway will be the first of several in Washington commemorating Dole’s life and legacy. Black draperies hung on doorways under the Capitol dome in preparation for the service. About 100 chairs were set up, socially distanced for COVID-19 protocols. A lectern was positioned in a way that the statue of another Kansas stateman, Dwight Eisenhower, will likely be seen in the background behind the day’s speakers.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, now the longest-serving Republican Senate leader, said Dole idolized Eisenhower, calling the former president and general a hero who embodied “the finest qualities of the American people.”

“We can say with certainty that Eisenhower isn’t the only Kansan who meets those standards,” McConnell said in a speech earlier this week.

Dole family spokesperson Steve Schwab said in a statement Thursday that Unes’ role had been terminated.

Schwab said Unes, a former Dole campaign staffer, had “volunteered his time to serve on the advance team for this week’s memorial events.” Schwab said Dole’s wife, Elizabeth Dole, “was previously unaware” of Unes’ participation and once he made her aware she “terminated his volunteer role.”

Unes did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The story was first reported by The New York Times.

Born a child of the Dust Bowl in Russell, Kansas, Bob Dole suffered paralyzing and near-fatal wounds after being shot in World War II that sent him home with a severely damaged right arm that he could not use to shake hands. Instead, Dole held a pen in it and reached out with his left as a way to put greeters at ease.

After earning a law degree, he worked as county attorney and served as a Kansas state legislator before running for Congress in 1960, joining the House for eight years then going on to win the Senate seat. He was the GOP’s presidential nominee in 1996, his third and final campaign for president — a race he never won.

Dole’s quick wit was on display after losing the presidential contest to incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton, who awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom days before the 1997 inauguration.

McConnell said when it was time for Dole’s remarks, he stood at the podium and began: “I, Robert J. Dole … do solemnly swear … oh, sorry, wrong speech!”

But that humor was rarely seen on the campaign trail or in his public pronouncements, where it could have helped him win more votes.

Instead, Dole was seen as a GOP “hatchet man,” a mentee of Richard Nixon and chairman of the Republican National Committee during the Watergate era. He went on to become the sharp-tongued vice presidential running mate to Gerald Ford, another lost race.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A man suspected of a total of six killings in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/missouri">Missouri</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/kansas">Kansas</a>&nbsp;pleaded not guilty Wednesday in two deaths in St. Louis.

Perez Reed, 26, appeared via video to face charges that he shot and killed 49-year-old Pamela Abercrombie on Sept. 16 and 24-year-old Carey Ross on Sept. 19 in St. Louis..

Reed is also charged in two killings in St. Louis County and two others in Kansas City, Kansas, in September and October.

He was arrested in early November while he was traveling from Kansas City to St. Louis.

Public defender Brian Horneyer entered not guilty pleas for Reed to two counts of murder and armed criminal action. Horneyer told the judge that Reed has an extensive history of mental health issues, KMOV reported.

Reed is charged in the St. Louis County killings of 16-year-old Marnay Haynes on Sept. 13 and Lester Robinson, 40, on Sept. 26. He is also charged with killing Damon Washington Irvin and Rau’daja De’Naya Farrow on Oct. 28-29 in Kansas City, Kansas. He has not been arraigned in those deaths.

Reed pleaded not guilty in November to a federal weapons charge. Authorities have said there is no known connection between the victims.

Man charged in 2 Kan. killings enters plea for 2 deaths in Missouri

SEWARD COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged child rape and trafficking of a runaway 13-year-old girl from Texas, according to a media release from the&nbsp;Liberal Police Department.

On Tuesday, authorities located the Denison, Texas girl in the 1000 block of South Kansas Avenue in Liberal.&nbsp; She was with a 63-year-old man.

Two 63-year-old men from Liberal approached the girl at a restaurant in Denison, and one of them convinced the teen to come with them to Kansas.

After they arrived in Liberal, Kansas, the 13-year-old girl reported she was forcefully raped by one of the men, according to the release.

 "The man also alleged told her he was going to prostitute her out to other people who would pay them good money."

Police booked the suspect on requested charges of rape and aggravated counts of human trafficking, kidnapping, interference with parental custody, intimidation of a victim and indecent liberties with a child. Police did not release the suspect's name.

A search warrant connected to the case was executed in the 800 block of South Lincoln in Liberal.&nbsp; The victim also told police the suspect had several visitors while she was in his home.

Police arrest SW Kan. man for alleged rape, human trafficking 

SEDGWICK COUNTY— A Kansas man has been sentenced for a&nbsp;deadly drug deal shooting.

On Monday, Judge Eric Williams sentenced 18-year-old Nathaniel Brandy to 16-years and 5 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections and an additional year in the county jail, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office for second degree murder, robbery and criminal use of a weapon.

&nbsp;In December of 2020, police arrested then 17-year-old Brandy in connection with the shooting happened in the 9300 block of East Funston in Wichita, according to officer Trevor Macy.

Officers found the victim identified as 20-year-old Cooper Kelley with a gunshot wound. EMS transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation determined the shooting was over an illegal drug deal arranged over social media. They say there were several witnesses who were very helpful in the case.

Kan. teen sentenced for killing during social media planned drug deal

HARVEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect after a high-speed chase and crash crash near Roosevelt Park in Newton.

Just after 4:30p.m. Tuesday, a police officer who was monitoring traffic on Meridian Road in Newton saw a Chrysler 300 going 67 mph in a 30-mph zone and weaving in and out of traffic, according to a media release.

The officer followed the car as it turned east onto Broadway. The driver sped up to 87 mph as the car was approaching Main Street, and the officer backed off because of the high-traffic area. 

The suspect continued east on Broadway until he crashed into another vehicle at Magnolia, causing minor injuries to the other driver. 

The suspect's car was disabled in the crash but continued rolling over the curb into Roosevelt Park, where it came to rest at the tennis courts.

The driver ran from the car, and Newton officers arrested him soon after. In the car, officers found a stolen gun and illegal drugs. The car had a Sedgwick County tag, and officials are working to identify the suspect.

Police work to ID suspect after chase, crash near Kansas park

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after an arrest.

Just after 8:30a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 1500 block South 8th Street in Atchison to investigate reported trespassing, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Officers located a suspect later identified as 27-year-old Jason C. Price of Atchison several blocks.

Price ran from officers. He was apprehended in the 1000 block South 7th and he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to Wilson.

Price is jailed on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.&nbsp; Price has been jailed in Atchison on a variety of charges over a dozen times in the past ten years, according to online jail records. He has previous convictions that include theft, burglary, criminal damage to property and attempt to flee and elude law enforcement, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

NEMAHA COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on child sex allegations.

On Dec. 3, police in Sabetha arrested 37-year-old&nbsp;Eric Puckett of Sabetha on requested charges of Aggravated Indecent Liberties With A Child, according to Nemaha County sheriff's booking report.

 Puckett remains in custody on a $100,000 bond, according to the county attorney's office. The crimes involving a child under the age of 14 allegedly occurred last month.

Kansas man jailed for alleged child sex crimes

MCPHERSON —Law enforcement authorities are&nbsp; investigating an alleged threat of violence towards the McPherson Middle School.

On Monday, the police received a report from USD 418- McPherson Middle School Administration concerning a 13-year-old student threatening to commit violence at the school, according to a media release.

McPherson police took the student into custody. There is no danger to students or the school, according to the release. A report on the incident will be forwarded to the McPherson County Attorney’s Office for review.

13-year-old arrested after alleged threat at Kan. middle school

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on drug charges in connection with two recent investigation.

Just after 10a.m. Saturday, police arrested Allison R. Blakley, 25, Atchison, in the 700 block Kansas Avenue. She is being held due to a District Court warrant for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement, and criminal damage to property, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

This warrant was associated with a case officers investigated&nbsp; on November 15 when a police officer on patrol observed Blakley, known to have active warrants for her arrest, as a passenger in a vehicle near 10th and U.S. 59 in Atchison.

The officer stopped the vehicle in the 1000 block U.S.59. Blakley got out of the vehicle and ran to a wooded area north of U.S. 59. She was apprehended and the subsequent investigation that followed led to the recovery of methamphetamine. During the warrant arrest on Saturday officers found Blakley to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia resulting in additional charges.

Since February 0f 2019, police have arrested her four time for failure to appear, according to online jail records.

Kansas woman hid in wooded area before arrest on drug warrant

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a car theft and have made an arrest.

The driver, Traci Elaine Reynolds, 37, of Wichita, is being held on requested charges of felony possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.<figure>
