SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man accused in the fatal shooting of a man on a bicycle in Wichita made his first court appearance last week.

Daniel Scott Carpenter, 33, was charged with 1st degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just after 2 a.m. Sept. 1, officers responded to a welfare check in the 800 block of West Murdock in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located 32-year-old Jason Huber of Wichita who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment where he died.

A suspect later seen on security cameras and identified as Carpenter was at the same nearby business as Huber before the shooting, according to Davidson. Carpenter left the business driving a white Buick La Sabre and Huber left on a bicycle both going west on Mudock.

At Murdock and Stackman Drive, Huber was shot and his bicycle was taken. Following an investigation, police arrested Carpenter on Friday, according to online jail records.

Carpenter has previous felony convictions for criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 16 in 2008, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

He is scheduled back in court date on Sept. 23 and remains in the Sedgwick County Jail on a bond of $500,000, according to the district attorney.

Police: Kan. suspect in fatal club shooting still at large

A Salina man was arrested on child endangerment and multiple drug charges after an incident in central Salina.

On Sept. 9, officers were dispatched to a reported accident involving a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup and a tree in the 500 block of S. Fifth Street, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

At the scene, the officers were told that the driver had removed a baby carrier from the pickup and fled the scene on foot. Additionally, officer found a handgun on the ground outside the driver’s door of the pickup.

Witnesses told police that the driver fled eastbound. Officers observed the man later identified as Timothy Garcia, 36, of Salina with the baby carrier running east across S. Fourth Street into the 300 block of Center Street. 

The subject then ran into the backyard of 310 Center Street and entered a detached garage, having placed an eight-week-old baby still in the carrier in the backyard of the residence. The baby was not injured and police arrested Garcia.

Officers also allegedly found approximately 768 grams of marijuana and 7 grams of cocaine in Garcia's possession. Additionally, an open container of Crown Royal was allegedly found in the pickup.

Police arrested Garcia on requested charges that include Possession with intent to distribute certain stimulant, Possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Criminal trespassing, Obstruction, Aggravated child endangerment, Possession of drug proceeds, No drug tax stamp, Possession of a firearm under the influence, Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, No seatbelt, Improper driving on laned roadways, Transporting an open containe, Duty to report a crash and No proof of insurance.

Police: Kan. man fled from DUI crash with baby in carrier

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Nevada man in connection with two attempted aggravated robberies.

On Wednesday, officers responded to the Fairlawn Plaza Shopping Center located at SW 21st Street and SW Fairlawn Road for two separate, but related attempted armed robberies, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

The suspect later identified as&nbsp;Trystan J. Mensler, 22 of Nevada  reportedly entered the Dillons at 5311 SW 22nd Pl. and attempted to purchase prescription medication from the pharmacy. When the suspect was denied purchase, he brandished a firearm. 

The suspect left without receiving anything and then went to the Walgreens at 2121 SW Fairlawn Rd. and tried the same thing, again receiving nothing.

Police located Mensler Thursday morning at the Econo Lodge located, 1518 SW Wanamaker Road and arrested&nbsp; him on requested charges of attempted aggravated robbery.

Vincent was arrested for rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, three counts of solicitation of a child, criminal threat, unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol and furnishing alcohol to minors. Sandra was arrested for two counts of unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol.

Vincent is confined in the Riley County Jail a total bond of $250,000. Sandra was issued a total bond of $2,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

RCPD: 2 arrested after child sex crime investigation

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an attack by an inmate brandishing a metal shank on detention deputies at the Sedgwick County Jail. The inmate identified as 56-year-old James E. Brown has been in custody since March for a violent sword attack.

Just before 10:30p.m. Wednesday, two corporals and a deputy were escorting Brown to his cell when he produced a metal shank and swung it at the deputy, according to Lt. Benjamin Blick.

A struggle ensued between the deputies and Brown in an effort to control the metal shank and end the assault. Once Brown was restrained, he was evaluated by clinic staff and transported to the hospital for treatment. 

Brown was later returned to the Detention Facility. Two of the deputies involved sustained injuries to their hands, according to Blick.

Police arrested Brown in March for Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery and Cruelty to Animals involving his use of a sword attack on his girlfriend and her dog.&nbsp; He now faces a requested charge of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree following the attack on jail deputies.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a violent, domestic attack arrested 41-year-old James E. Brown of Wichita early Wednesday, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Police arrested him on charges stemming from an aggravated battery – domestic violence and animal cruelty investigation and a second aggravated battery – domestic violence strangulation investigation, according to officer Charley Davidson. Brown also has an outstanding warrant.

Just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a home in the 1500 block of North New York in Wichita, according to Davidson.

 Upon arrival, they contacted a 41-year-old woman who had a severe laceration to her hand and back.&nbsp; She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries and remains hospitalized.

The investigation revealed the victim and her boyfriend identified as Brown, were at the home and got into a verbal disturbance.&nbsp; Brown grabbed a five to six-foot sword during the disturbance, struck her multiple times, and stabbed her dog multiple times.&nbsp; Investigators also learned the victim had been strangled.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to an injury accident at Harry and Washington regarding a vehicle that hit a pole, according to Office Trevor Macy.

Upon arrival, officers located a white Chevy Monte Carlo that was wrecked and occupied by Carter who had been shot.

First responders removed Carter from the vehicle, performed life-saving measures were but he was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Investigators learned Carter was driving eastbound on Harry Street stopped at Topeka Street in the inside lane at the red light. While stopped, a white SUV pulled into the oncoming lanes beside Carter and a passenger believed to be&nbsp;Manzano-Legarda fired multiple times at Carter, striking him and his vehicle.

The white SUV then fled the scene. Carter began driving eastbound on Harry and lost control of the vehicle at Harry and Meade, struck a light pole and a utility pole at Harry and Washington.

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting in Lawrence have identified the victim as 21-year-old Christian Willis of Wichita.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 1500 block of Kentucky Street in Lawrence in response to a possible shooting, according to police spokesperson Patrick Compton.

At the scene officers located a victim later identified as Willis who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police have made no arrests or identified a suspect.

On Sept. 4, police responded to a home in the western part of Emporia where investigators learned a woman in her 20s was home alone with her toddler, according to a media release.

A man she knew entered the residence, threatened her and the child with a gun and raped her, according to police.

Investigators developed the identity of a suspect and on Tuesday arrested 24-year-old Victor Joel Cardona on requested charges of aggravated burglary, rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and criminal threat.&nbsp; Police released no additional details.

WYANDOTTE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal weekend shooting have identified the victim as 27-year-old Travis Eugene Bowman of Kansas City, Kansas, according to police. The suspect is 35-year-old Darnell D. Walker of Kansas City, Kansas.

Just after 10:30p.m. Saturday, police responded to report of a shooting in the 2200 Block of Silver Court in Kansas City, Kansas.

They found Bowman with a gunshot wound. EMS transported the him to an area hospital where he died.&nbsp;

Police believe the shooting occurred as the result of an argument and physical altercation between the two men over a missing Amazon package that had been delivered to the apartment of the victim's sister.

Walker is being held on a $250,000 bond on requested charges of first degree murder.

Kansas man killed over missing Amazon package

COWLEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities continue to investigate a two-vehicle accident that led to hospitalizations Tuesday morning following an attempted traffic stop in Cowley County.

Just before 9:30 a.m., police observed a red 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, driven by Casiopia Price, 27, of Arkansas City, traveling eastbound on East Chestnut Avenue at the B Street intersection, according to police spokesman Andrew Lawson.

Police learned Price was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and they attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 9:21 a.m. as both vehicles continued eastbound, approaching North D Street.

Price accelerated the Dodge truck away from officers when they attempted to stop her for the violation. The truck continued to accelerate and failed to stop at the intersection of Chestnut and U.S. 77.

The the truck entered the bypass intersection, where it was struck by an apparently northbound 2015 Chrysler Town and Country van. Both vehicles traveled through the intersection after the collision and came to a stop off the roadway, to the northeast of the intersection.

One of the vehicles also struck utility pole which caused a downed line on the U.S. 77 bypass, which was closed temporarily between Kansas and Madison avenues while emergency crews responded.

Price allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, she was quickly taken into custody.

The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department was dispatched to the scene to treat the injured parties.

The 46-year-old driver of the van was transported in stable condition to William Newton Hospital in Winfield. A 37-year-old passenger in the van was transported by the Fire-EMS Department in critical condition to South Central Kansas Medical Center and later flown to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita for further treatment. A 3-year-old passenger in the van was treated at South Central Kansas Medical Center, and is listed as stable and in good condition. Price was listed as being in fair to critical condition after also being transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is assisting ACPD with the investigation. Once it is complete, the police department will coordinate with the Cowley County Attorney’s Office on possible criminal charges.

3 adults, child injured after crash during police chase

GEARY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a case of alleged domestic have made an arrest.

On Tuesday, the The Geary County sheriff's office reported they were attempting to locate 35-year-old David Paul Jones.

Prior to his arrest, deputies said Jones was seen in the area of the Otter Creek Bridge on Lyons Creek Road.

Jones was wanted in Dickinson County for Domestic Battery and ran from local law enforcement when located in Geary County and is being held in Geary County, according online jail records.

KANSAS CITY (AP) — Four people were wounded in a shooting at a festival in Independence, Missouri, prompting police to use Facebook to urge parents to pick up their children from the event.

Independence police responded to the shooting at the SantaCaliGon Festival Sunday night.

Douglass McGathy, 32, was charged with Murder in the 2nd degree, 2 counts domestic battery and 1 count of criminal damage to property, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's offce.

Just after 9:30p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to a stabbing in the 5600 block of south 143rd Street East in Wichita, according to Lt. Benjamin Blick.

 When deputies arrived, they located a 48-year-old as Kelly Joe Ralph in the driveway with multiple stab wounds. EMS transported&nbsp; him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

During the investigation, deputies learned there was a physical disturbance between Ralph and and his nephew Douglass R. McGathy over a gun sale, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter. They both lived at the home.

Deputies arrested McGathy and the next day located the knife used in the murder. It was thrown on the roof of the home, according to Sheriff Jeff Easter.

McGathy is due back in court Sept. 9, according to the district attorney. <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20072339">He remains jailed</a> on a $250,000 bond.

Kansas man charged with murder of his uncle

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on drug charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 4:30p.m. Sept. 2, a sheriff’s deputy arrested&nbsp; 27-year-old Carmelle Marie Inez Stoweres on Topeka in the 12000 block of 150th Street in rural Jackson County, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

Stowers was allegedly in possession of illegal drug contraband and was booked into jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 </figure>JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on drug charges after a traffic stop.Just after 4:30p.m. Sept. 2, a sheriff’s deputy arrested&nbsp; 27-year-old Carmelle Marie Inez Stoweres on Topeka in the 12000 block of 150th Street in rural Jackson County, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.Stowers was allegedly in possession of illegal drug contraband and was booked into jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting death and after asking the public for help to ID a suspect have arrested 33-year-old Daniel Scott Carpenter, according to the Sedgwick County booking report.

Just after 2 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a welfare check in the 800 block of West Murdock in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located 32-year-old Jason Huber of Wichita who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment where he died.

The investigation revealed&nbsp;28-year-old Caesar Hermosillo of Dodge City and Huber were both at the same nearby business.&nbsp; &nbsp;They left the business, Huber on a bicycle and Hermosillo in a van westbound on Murdock.

At Murdock and Stackman Drive, Huber was shot and his bicycle was taken.

Another suspect later seen on security cameras and identified as Carpenter was at the same nearby business as Huber before the shooting, according to Davidson.

Carpenter left the business driving a white Buick La Sabre and Huber left on a bicycle both going west on Mudock before the shooting.

<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=198141">Carpenter is being held </a>on requested charges of first-degree murder. Police have not reported details of the arrest.

Police say Hermosillo, facing a possible first-degree murder charge in Huber's shooting death, is no longer facing those charges.&nbsp;He remains in custody on a pending warrant.

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas high school teacher for the alleged child sex crimes.

On August 31, police in Eldorado took a report of alleged sexual exploitation of a child, according to a media release.&nbsp;&nbsp;After multiple search warrants, officers arrested 50-year-old Dannah (Dan) Rose, Jr. on requested charges of sexual exploitation of a child and electronic solicitation of a child.

He is an industrial tech teacher at Circle High School, according to the&nbsp;USD 375 website.

This is a great reminder to have a conversation with your children regarding sexual abuse, according to the El Dorado Police Department.&nbsp;

50-year-old Kan. teacher jailed for alleged child sex crimes

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with a string of burglary cases in Kansas.

Just after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were notified of a vehicle burglary at Sherwood Apartments, 2745 SW Villa West Drive in Topeka, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

 Several items were taken during the burglary, including a firearm.

Throughout the course of the investigation, suspect information was developed and Cory J. Pruyser, 29 of Topeka, was taken into custody in the 5300 block SW 10th Street.

Investigators determined that Pruyser was a suspect in two other burglary investigations.

Pruyser was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated burglary, Theft &lt; $1500 All Other, Theft of Firearm, Burglary and Possession of stolen property.

Man arrested for string of Kansas burglaries

A rural Saline County man who in late August reported being the victim of residential burglary was, himself, arrested in connection to a burglary at a business just south of Salina.

Someone broke into a fenced-in area at HABCO, Inc., 248 E. Berg Road earlier this month and got into three vehicles and three enclosed trailers there, according to&nbsp;Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

 Two tablets were taken from two of the vehicles and a battery was taken from the third. Locks were cut off the three trailers and multiple tools were also taken.. The total loss was estimated at $6,585.

A deputy reviewing surveillance video thought he recognized the alleged burglar as Jeremy Carnes, 40, of rural Saline County, as he recognized the man's clothes and had taken a burglary report from him in late August.

Deputies paid a visit to Carnes at his residence in the 400 block of E. Water Well Road and noticed an item that appeared to be one of the items stolen from HABCO, Soldan said. 

A search warrant was obtained for the residence. A large number of the stolen items were recovered from Carnes' residence, Soldan said. Carnes was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges&nbsp;of burglary, Felony theft and Three counts of damage to property.

Police said Friday morning that Caesar Hermosillo of Dodge City was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in the death of 32-year-old Jason Huber of Wichita. 

But police said later Friday that Hermosillo no longer faces those charges. He remains in custody on a pending warrant. Police are now searching for another man in connection to Huber's death. 

Huber was found Wednesday suffering from gunshot wounds near South Riverside Park and he died later at a hospital.
